The Porsche 911 has always been among the world’s most desirable cars, keeping it near the top of the automotive food chain for 50+ years. This sleek 2000 Carrera (complete with an updated IMS bearing) lives up to this heritage nicely. With its sports car performance and dynamic looks, this Porsche does not disappoint.
Based on the 996 platform, this Arizona car has a clean accident-free history throughout its 107k miles. It looks fantastic with its somewhat rare Paladio Metallic paint accented by black graphics and tinted windows. There are also black 18” turbo wheels with new Michelin Pilot Sport tires all around. And of course there is the big GT3 style rear spoiler which really makes the car stand out.
The drivetrain consists of Porsche’s 3.4L flat-6 motor rated at 300hp. This engine received a major service in November 2017 which included an updated IMS bearing (the Achilles heel of this engine) along with a new water pump, rear main seal, oil cooler, clutch assembly, and other parts. There is also an Eisenmann exhaust with just the right sound. The transmission is the desirable 6-speed manual which any proper 996 should have. The lowered suspension gives improved handling, while the responsive steering and outstanding brakes all contribute to a great driving experience.
The black leather interior continues the sports car theme with bucket seats that hold you nicely when cornering. Note the rear seat cushions have been removed in favor of a bolt-in roll bar (they are included with the car though). The dash and controls are very well laid out making for a very functional interior. The automatic climate control works great and is nice to have, while the factory radio has been replaced with an Alpine unit.
There aren’t many cars like the Porsche 911. It can do it all and do it well, though with a list price of almost $80,000 you’d expect as much. For a fraction of this original price you can own and experience a beautiful example of one of the world’s greatest sports cars.
