yesteryear came back 40 years after the first Hertz Mustangs were
offered for rental. In 2007 the idea of offering a Hertz badged
Mustang, that was modified from the factory specs of a Mustang GT
came to fruition. The original Hertz Mustang catalog from 1966
mentioned that, These cars are available to business travelers who
want a change in pace in motoring, by sports car owners away from
home and by vacations who consider driving an enjoyable sport.
That's a pretty wordy explanation for such a unique program, that
was wildly popular. To most car enthusiasts, a black Mustang
finished with gold stripes and gold 'Shelby GT-H' badges reminds
them of the Hertz rent-a-racer cars, and Shelby GT350s and GT500s.
The crazy idea of having a performance sports car that just anyone
could rent from the famous Rental car company seemed to be
something that wouldn't work. From a car enthusiast's standpoint,
we are not surprised that the program was wildly popular. On the
other hand it just seems odd that renting a high performance car to
the average person was a good idea. Regardless, here's your chance
to own one of the limited number Mustang Hertz cars with this '07
GT-H Shelby Mustang. On the exterior, the Gold stripes and Shelby
GT-H badging give the game away that this is not your average
Mustang. A further walk around the car reveals that in addition to
the silver Hertz logos, the grille, exhaust pipes, 19 wheels, and a
spoiler have been added to this unique pony car. Inside the car is
a familiar Mustang interior, other than Shelby badging in a few
places and a numbered Shelby plaque placed just above the radio.
Ford's 4.6L V8 has Ford Racing's Power Pack installed to bump up
the power 25 horsepower. Other changes to the V8 come in the form
of a Ford Racing air intake, and free flowing exhaust. Not only did
the engine end up with performance parts, but the suspension has
been changed from the stock parts as well. Lowering springs that
lower the car 1.5 have been added, an upper strut tower brace is
easily visible under the hood, and 19 black wheels wrapped in BF
Goodrich tires help get the power to the pavement. Being that these
cars were built with the rental car business in mind, this Mustang
has Ford's 5-speed automatic transmission mated to the V8 and
different rear end gears from the standard GT. 3.31:1 gears were
replaced with 3.55:1 gears which are the same ratio as what was
found in the Mach1 and Cobra in 2003 and 2004. This car is right up
there for the 2007 Mustang lineup hierarchy of horsepower and
performance factory options. The limited run, Shelby touches, and
Hertz styling make this car unmistakable, and desirable. Be sure to
