For Sale: 2018 Chevrolet Camaro in Charlotte, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

In the automotive realm, few things excite enthusiasts more than the word "COPO". Thanks to a little rule breaking and covert innovation, the COPO Camaro became a holy grail of the muscle car world. When you think about it, that's kind of funny since most of Chevrolet's well-known Central Office Production Orders were profitable fleet sales. But then, maybe that acute focus on purpose is what makes COPOs so special. In today's cosmos of technological wizardry and uninformed assessment, a stripped-down Camaro can certainly convey an image of inadequacy. But, rest assured, 'budget muscle car' naivety will melt into slack-jaw stares as soon as you ignite 350 cubic inches of supercharged small block muscle! Looking for a heart-fluttering, wheel-standing beast to take your weekends from a 10 to an 11? Check out this fully documented, 1-of-69 fleet special!

THE LEGEND BUILDING THE LEGACY

Is the old saying "what's old is eventually new again", or is it "some things just never go out of style"? Either way, 2011 was a great year since Chrysler single-handedly revived the factory drag wars with their V10-powered Dodge Challenger Drag Pack. Fast forward a few more years and Ford's getting in on the fun with a factory Cobra Jet program, and GM's answer, the legendary COPO Camaro, is more popular than either. Chevrolet's COPO program was revived in 2012, shortly after the arrival of the fifth-generation Camaro. In keeping with tradition, the cars feature custom-ordered powerplants that focus on performance above all else. And, in a fresh turn of events, GM decided to cap annual production at 69 hand-built units, awarded at random, to members of a buyer's pool. That means you're looking at the most exclusive car GM currently produces.

Officially the fifth 2018 COPO Camaro produced, this brutal coupe, sold through Scoggin-Dickey Chevrolet of Lubbock, Texas, has essentially been gorgeous garage furniture for its one and only owner. I mean, when you spend your weekends racing a 3,000 horsepower Pro Mod, it's probably pretty easy to abate the temptation of a 580 horsepower factory car, right? Right. See, the owner's plan was pretty simple: sell his Pro Mod car and race the COPO for fun. But Pro Mod racing was just too much fun to quit, so the COPO never made its debut. The car literally went from Reliable Carriers' truck to the owner's garage where it's been carefully shuffled ever since. For the rest of us mortals, that means a factory-fresh, 8-second whirlwind that's never even done a burnout. And, wearing exclusive COPO bolt-ons that are framed in sinister Black paint, this Chevy is certainly a ride for the ages!

NOT YOUR TYPICAL CHEVY 350

"COPO" and "427" go hand-in-hand, but it's hard to argue with mid-8s at 160MPH. That's right: the supercharged LSX 350 under this coupe's trick, carbon fiber hood is, to date, the fastest ride you'll ever take in a COPO Camaro. Calibrated with 50 passes for every significant engineering change, the COPO 350 is designed to make 200 runs, essentially a full season, without needing significant repair or rebuilding. At the top of the hand-built mill, an optional carbon fiber intake feeds a 109mm Whipple throttle body, which feeds a 2.9 liter Whipple supercharger. A hot COMP hydraulic roller cam inspires stout 10.9 to 1 compression. That compression occurs under CNC-ported Chevrolet Performance LSX-LS7 heads that are finished with Johnson lifters, LS7 rockers, Del West valves, Trend pushrods and PSI beehive springs. At the sides of those heads, bright AC Delco plug wires thread stainless American Racing headers, which cradle a cast iron LSX block that's decked in vivid Chevy Orange paint. Inside that block, a Callies DragonSlayer crank spins Callies Ultra H-Beam rods, complete with quality ARP bolts, under forged and Grafal-coated Mahle pistons. Cooling is provided by a lightweight PWR radiator, which fronts a large puller fan. And, like any strip-ready creation, this coupe sports a roster of quality details, which include unique wiring, a Stef's oil pan, an ATI Super Damper and a full outfit of Aeromotive fuel components.

FACTORY-BUILT NMCA SUPER CAR

Sleeker, 133 pounds lighter and 28% stiffer than its predecessor, this Alpha-based Chevy is built to win! Behind the 350, a race-prepped Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed, sourced from ATI Performance Products, transmits wheel lifting power. That torque flows to an aluminum third member that's fitted with 4.10 gears, a spool-type differential and 40-spline, gun-drilled axle shafts. That drivetrain pushes a COPO-specific 4-link, which is finished with a Panhard bar, a stabilizer bar and adjustable Strange coil-overs. In front of that clip, an adjustable, strut-type front-half frames un-assisted rack-and-pinion steering. A sweet but equally brutal soundtrack is provided by wide-diameter dumps. A COPO-spec Simpson parachute joins color-keyed Strange calipers and four slotted rotors to initiate stops. And power pounds the pavement through polished Bogart wheels, which spin 28.0x4.5-15 Hoosiers in front of 9.0x30.0-15 Hoosiers.

MINIMALISM AT ITS FINEST

Inside this buff Camaro you'll find a delightfully simple interior that's fortified by an NHRA-certified chromoly roll cage. At the center of that cage, "COPO" branded seats employ 5-point Simpson harnesses. In front of those seats, a French-stitched dash plants vital Auto Meter accessory gauges beneath a small shift light and big Auto Meter tachometer. Beneath that dash, fresh carpet frames a serious Hurst shifter. The driver spins a factory Camaro wheel beneath a quality Simpson window net. And behind the cockpit, a clean trunk hides a 6-gallon Aeromotive fuel cell between dual Racer's Package batteries.

Wrapping 350 cubic inches of supercharged Chevrolet small block in sparse amenities, factory-tested performance hardware and menacing Black paint, this coupe an excellent continuation of the COPO legacy. Looking for style, exclusivity and incredible athleticism? Call your friends at RK Motors Charlotte and enjoy one of the most brutal Camaros ever built!
