Vehicle Description
1989 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
Zora Arkus-Duntov (December 25, 1909 - April 21, 1996) was a
Belgian-born American engineer whose work on the Chevrolet Corvette
earned him the nickname "Father of the Corvette." He is sometimes
erroneously referred to as the inventor of the Corvette, whereas
that title belongs to Harley Earl. He was also a successful racing
driver, taking class victories in 1954 and 1955 at the 24 Heures du
Mans.
For consignment a nice example of a 1989 Convertible Corvette. This
one comes with the auxilliary hardtop, digital dash, and has plenty
of new parts recently put on...full speed ahead kids!
Exterior
Bright Red drapes the fiberglass panels, and molded plastic crash
bumpers on this, a Corvette with the lowest angle windshield rake
to this date. This body was basically a preview to what was to come
for the ZR1 model which was delayed until 1990. Wide white racing
stripes run from stem to stern. Hidden headlights, a black belt
line black molding, a beautiful black convertible top that hides
itself under a plastic molded tonneau, and a removable hardtop for
the coupe like driving experience with added safety. Standard
turbine style 17-inch alloy wheels are on all 4 corners, and
bringing up the rear are chrome tipped exhaust pipes. Vroom
Vroom!
Interior
Mesmerizing red carpet mats covers pristine black carpet that
floods the floors, and the back trunk area, and it is a deep, deep
black, in very good condition. Red inserts with black bolsters
leather buckets showing some patina with minor folds, and slight
wear, flank a red and black center console/storage unit. This also
houses the 4-speed automatic transmission, climate control, AM/FM
Cassette, and a data center with a screen to display information
regarding temperatures and other key components of the engine. A
digital display is seen in front of the leather aftermarket
steering wheel for RPM/Speed and Oil Pressure/Volts and Fuel range.
Controls for power windows, power mirrors, and cruise control are
also noted.
Drivetrain
A 350ci 240 horsepower, Tuned-Port Fuel Injected L98 V8 engine
rests within the engine bay which is very clean with an overall
nice patina. A 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive
is attached to the back of the new mill. The rear axle has a 2.59
gear ratio.
Undercarriage
Very clean, well maintained, rust free, structurally sound,
undercoating intact on floorpans, no real leakage to speak of in
engine/transmission area, and frame is unscathed...what more could
one ask for!? How about 4-wheel power disc brakes, and C4
suspension all around...
Drive-Ability
This car started right up and ran beautifully throughout our test
ride. No known problems with any functions too.
A very nice 4th gen example of a Corvette, complete with racing
stripes, plenty of conveniences, and a documented plethora of new
parts. That snazzy tech digital dash, and stunning red and black
leather seats, all buttoned up and cared for by this Corvette
Collector Consigner.
