Vehicle Description
This 1940 Chevrolet Master Deluxe Supercharged is a very cool
blending of vintage and new. After all, the first impression is a
classic body with a modern presentation. But as you dig deeper, you
find distinctive supercharged V8 power. And everything from the
overdrive transmission to the suspension was beefed up to handle
this street-eating power.
Sinisterly dark and seriously custom: that's the first impression
this Chevy makes. With the expertly deleted bumpers and the custom
rake of the chopped windshield, this one takes 1940s steel and
makes is look like a modern speed machine. Of course, it also helps
that there is a modern deep purple paint. It has the right amount
of gloss to really show off the curves of the fenders and the
classic trunk lid. The dark paint also instantly draws extra
attention to the contrasting bright pieces, like the distinct
grille, clear headlights, and the large Torq Thrust wheels. But
those who are really paying attention will be pointing out details
like the supercharger peeking out from the side of the hood and the
nicely integrated side exhaust tips. So this Chevrolet isn't timid
about its power, but it does a good job of integrating it.
Door poppers get you into the interior, and your first impression
may just be of a well-restored classic setup. After all, you have
two classic-style wide benches covered in a comfy tweed cloth. But
then you slip behind the wheel. There's a sports steering wheel on
a tilt column (power steering) and a floor-mounted Lokar shifter.
Plus, the dash is dominated by a dozen professional-grade AutoMeter
Sport-Comp gauges. So while this one has an AM/FM/CD stereo upgrade
for driving tunes, you already know your real favorite soundtrack
begins under the hood.
The engine bay is a bright setup brimming with power. This is a 383
cubic-inch stroker V8 with go-fast goodies like a Holley
double-pumper 750 CFM four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock hi-rise
intake, and headers feeding those growling side pipes. And while
that's already plenty of power to move most of us down the road,
this special coupe has a Vortech supercharger added on top! There
are also nice supporting pieces, like a Pertronix ignition, dual
alternators, and an aluminum radiator w/dual electric fans. The
full package is rated at about 500 horsepower at the rear wheels,
and so the 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission was built to
handle up to 600 hp. And this isn't the car's only beefy component.
The undercarriage photos will show you the strong Currie 9-inch
rear. Plus, while you're down there, check out the Mustang II-style
tubular arm front suspension by Chassis Engineering, the four-link
rear w/adjustable coilovers by Competition Engineering, and
four-wheel disc brakes.
