transmission.Every Corvette fan has their favorite year or
generation. And with over 65 years over Corvettes there certainly
is plenty to choose from. But milestone years tend to be the most
popular. There is of course the '53. The beginning of the legend is
always significant. The '57 is also a really popular choice. That
year marked the end of sorts for that particular body style. There
were actually four different body changes for the C1. From '53-'55
'56-'57 '58-'60 and '61-'62. During this time span the cars
transitioned from a Roadster to an actual Convertible with roll-up
windows.Subsequent years saw Corvette grow wider and longer add a
couple of headlights more cubic inches along with more horsepower
and more gears to shift . . . until finally Corvette hit a peak so
to speak in 1958. The year of "Gingerbread". This was the Jet-age.
Wings here tall fins there chrome everywhere! And Corvette was not
immune to this "treatment".In '58 everything was just a bit over
the top. This was the first year for dual headlights. The car was
also longer and wider than the previous year. The hood featured a
simulated louvered hood and two chrome trunk spears out back. The
look was polarizing at first. You either loved it or hated it. But
it's said time heals all wounds. And as the years went by more
people started to appreciate the "Gingerbread" that adorned the '58
Corvette. As a result time has been good to this year Corvette and
the desirability factor has increased so have the values and along
with the fact that there were only a bit over 9k '58's built it is
getting harder and harder to find '58's in general to sell let
along outstanding examples like the one presented here . . .We
really lucked out with this one! We acquired this '58 from a very
discriminating collector in the mid-west. He commissioned the
complete frame-off nut and bolt restoration which was performed by
well-known Corvette restorer Werner Meier. It was completed in
September of 2015 at a cost of over $110k (plus the car). The
result is absolutely stunning as you can see!The rare Regal
Turquoise paint glows in the sun and it's perfectly complemented by
contrasting White coves and soft top along with a beautiful
Charcoal interior. It's powered by a 283 with a single Carter carb
for rock-solid reliability and a 4-spd. (the original 3-spd. comes
with) for excellent drivability! The car is a dream to drive.
Options include; Two-Tone paint Whitewall ties rare power windows
am radio and heater. The casting # is 3737739 which is a correct 283
c.i. block. The stamp is F1204CQ which translates to an engine
build date of December 4th 1957. This corresponds with the build of
the car itself which was around the second week of January '58 as
evidenced in the V.I.N.There was very little in the way of factory
documentation back in '58. This was years before Protect-O-Plates
and Tank Stickers. This particular '58 does not have any factory
docs nor do we have complete owner history. However there are
receipts for the restoration work done which will go with the car
when is sells.Any restorer with a bit of experience can make a car
look beautiful but making it run and drive well is often another
story altogether! Here at Corvette Mike our service technicians
have spent countless hours "finessing" cars that have been brought
to our shop after being restored by others because they just
wouldn't run properly. But having personally driven this '58 I can
tell you unequivocally that it is one of the nicest running and
driving Solid Axle's we've ever had in inventory! Not to mention
one of the most beautiful. The engine starts instantly and runs
strong. The transmission shifts smoothly the car stops straight and
the steering is so well balanced you would swear it was
power-assisted (but it isn't)! This is a Corvette that you can
drive anywhere with confidence! All it needs is a caring new owner
to enjoy it!This is the Corvette of your dreams. Make it a reality
