Vehicle Description
1968 Ford Mustang Coupe
22,000 MUSTANGS WERE SOLD ON THE FIRST DAY! Even Ford couldn't have
predicted how successful the car would be. On the opening day,
22,000 units were sold, and dealerships were taking waiting lists
for several days after.
For consignment a Mustang in mid restoration. Resprayed 6 years ago
and at that time the vinyl top was taken off but never replaced. It
has the standard 289ci V8, but it is not original to the car.
Interior is black vinyl and has a few areas of creasing and show
some wear. A fine running car though just needs a little extra TLC
to finish it off.
Exterior
A White respray covers the steel body panels that have a few
alignment areas where gaps could be better. This is particularly
true on the hood, and doors where they meet the front quarters. The
vinyl top has been stripped off, and front and rear window moldings
are not currently on this car. Where this trim work would be put
on, some surface rust is noted. Chrome and trim that remains on the
car is excellent. Badging is all correct and attached, and 14-inch
Mustang rally wheels are seen on all 4 corners.
Interior
Black vinyl covers most surfaces including the door panels which
show in good condition. The front buckets have slight areas of wear
where the bolsters meet the inserts, and bolster seams as you enter
the car. Also, there are some creases in the vinyl that has a nice
patina. A rear 2+2 matching bench stretches from side to side and
is in good condition. The dash is appearing like it did in 1968 but
has an aftermarket stereo replacing the original and a duo of
aftermarket gauges hangs under this radio. Also, a rally style
padded steering wheel has replaced the original. Center hump carpet
is faded, and the remainder of the carpet requires a good
cleaning.
Drivetrain
Peering under the hood into the engine bay we see a non-original
289ci V8 that has plenty of patina, some surface rust and Cobra
valve covers. An Edelbrock Performer intake with a 4-barrel Holley
carb sits atop and is covered by a shiny air cleaner. On back a
5-speed manual transmission replaces the original.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust is noted, floor pans and unibody frame is good
and sturdy, and it appears as though the torque boxes in front have
had a metal panel replacement. This is also true for the trunk
which has had some panels repaired. Drum brakes are on all 4
corners and a Ford 9-inch rear axle is seen. Flowmaster exhaust is
in good condition.
Drive-Ability
This car started quickly and ran smoothly for our test drive. It
has good power on the acceleration front and handles well without
any creaking or complaining.
A restoration that is 75% finished, just a bit more TLC will bring
this well running example up to snuff. It's all there save for the
top vinyl, ready to be driven away.
