Vehicle Description
This 1978 Mercedes Benz 450SEL 6.9 comes out of a car collection.
Its current owner purchased the vehicle five years ago from a
private party. To his knowledge, the car has never been in an
accident. All maintenance has been performed and the car is ready
to give its new owner miles of enjoyment. In 1978, the Mercedes 450
SEL 6.9 was the king of the hill in Europe among high speed,
executive size 4 door saloons. It was long, wide, built like a bank
vault and was powered by the largest engine in any European
production car since WW II. In short, the MB 6.9 was the ultimate
Autobahn cruiser. The car presented here is a Euro version, one of
only 1.665 built worldwide in 1978; it was exported to the U.S. for
resale. It's SOHC , Bosch K-tronic fuel injected 6.9 liter engine
produces 286 horsepower and a mighty 405 ft. lbs. of torque -
considerably more than the U.S. version of this car. This mighty
engine propels the 6.9 from 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds and can travel
140 mph despite its over 5,000 pound weight. Interesting features
include the Euro only electronic controlled self leveling hydro
pneumatic suspension in which the ride height could be altered by
as much as 2 inches via the dash mounted push/pull knob. The result
is a vehicle that offers both a smooth ride and excellent handling
with adequate ground clearance when needed. This vehicle is in
extremely good condition for its age. The car has been finished in
shiny black, not its original color. It sports its distinctive
European headlamps and bumpers. The black leather seats show some
wear commensurate with the age and mileage of the car but have no
tears, cuts or rips. The real woodgrain trim is very good, although
there are a few cracks around the gear shift lever. The car runs
extremely well - it is a very powerful, luxurious cruiser. Please
