Vehicle Description
Thoughts of the legendary Charger immediately bring to mind a near
perfect blend of basic transportation and big performance. See,
back in the '60s when muscle cars packed on premiums to increase
margins, Dodge continued to honor the tenets of the cheap speed
movement. In fact, the second-generation Charger was carefully
redesigned to stay firmly grounded in the realm of affordability.
And today, 50 years into the future, that adherence to principle
fosters a remarkable line-up of classics that, because of their
purity, seem to perpetually gain value. Take this brilliantly
dapper coupe for example. Combining 440 cubic inches of massaged
big block with an A727 3-speed automatic, a fully upgraded
suspension and a ground-up, nut-and-bolt restoration, it's an
excellent example of why vintage Detroit metal will always be
incredibly appealing. Shopping for an unadulterated embodiment of
the quintessential muscle car? Take a long look at this impressive
MoPar!
ATOMIC AUTHENTIC
Mixing all-American Atomic Orange glow with a bold vinyl roof and
custom war paint, this authentic Charger R/T is the beneficiary of
a detailed restoration that's impressively fresh and extremely
clean. That comprehensive rebuild stripped all the car's metal on
its way to incorporating a roster of mechanical, aesthetic and
structural improvements. And today, this classic rolls as one
brazen bruiser that's a testament to both timeless design and
world-beating performance!
Replaced during its thorough build, every bit of this MoPar's
bright ornamentation presents extremely well. At the front of the
car, a chrome-trimmed grille hangs a traditional "Charger R/T"
script between hidden headlamps and amber parking lights. Behind
that grille, a scalloped hood centers small turn indicators in
front of crisp glass that's cleared by matte wipers and framed in
polished stainless. At the sides of that glass, a "Charger" branded
profile centers a correct mirror and traditional door handles
between clean marker lamps, bold R/T scoops and an ornate Pit Stop
Fuel Filler. And at the back of the car, a Satin Black valance
centers a second "Charger R/T" script between clean taillights, a
guarded bumper and polished exhaust tips.
IRON HEART
Check the car's smoothed and body-matched engine bay and you'll
find 440 cubic inches of retro RB legend that's 100% iron all the
way from its block up to its heads. At the top of that reliable
mill, a color-keyed billet air cleaner threads wind into a steady
stream of fossils that's provided by a big Holley 4-barrel. That
perfect mixture of air and fuel, modulated through a quality Lokar
linkage, floods a slick Edelbrock Performer 440 intake. That intake
funnels speed into factory-spec heads, which tilt a polished
breather, a polished oil cap and body-matched valve covers away
from a sporty COMP cam. At the front of those covers, an electronic
distributor sequences spark between a chrome coil and loomed MSD
Street Fire wires. At the front of those wires, billet pulleys wrap
a pliable serpentine belt around modern air conditioning and modern
power steering. Cooling is provided by a polished Champion
radiator, which rides in front of two electric puller fans. Exhaust
roars through coated long-tube headers. Details like a familiar
Wilwood master cylinder and a high capacity oil pan cement this
Dodge's status as a well-blended piece of choice mechanical art.
And everything sits stiffer thanks to custom chassis tubes and a
Magnum Force mount plate.
A TRUE RESTO-MOD
Park this B-Body on a lift and you'll find solid, undercoated
floors that frame an array of top-notch upgrades. Behind the 440
V8, a 2,200 RPM stall kicks a tough A727 3-speed automatic, which
spins a proven Dana Super 60 axle that hides sporty 3.54 gears
behind a trick LPW inspection cover. That killer drivetrain pushes
a retrofitted 4-bar rear-clip that's finished with tubular control
arms and double-adjustable Jegs coil-overs. Opposite that clip, a
tubular Magnum Force K-member rides between a heavy-duty sway bar,
a second round of tubular control arms and double-adjustable Viking
coil-overs. Turns are coordinated through Magnum Force power
rack-and-pinion steering. Quick power is countered by quick stops
thanks to big Wilwood calipers, which clamp a quartet of drilled
and slotted rotors. An impressive soundtrack is funneled through
large-diameter pipes, which center an X-shaped crossover in front
of welded, dual-chamber mufflers. All that proven hardware rolls on
muted 5-spoke aluminum wheels, which spin 245/40ZR18 Nitto NT555
Extreme ZR tires in front of 305/40R18 Nitto NT555 Extreme Drags.
And everything stays tight thanks to tubular subframe
connectors.
A TRUE ORIGINAL
Counter to today's obsession with technology and convenience, it
seems old school American muscle cars only needed simple stitching,
a bit of stainless trim and essential instrumentation to strike a
perfect balance of 'instantly classic' and 'perpetually cool'. Open
this Charger's solid doors and you'll find a tastefully updated
cockpit where French-stitched Ultraleather buckets meld seamlessly
with a stylish, no-nonsense driving environment. An Atomic Orange
dash hangs rebuilt telemetry beside correct Chrysler Solid State
audio and a small Equus oil pressure gauge. Beneath that dash, a
stainless-trimmed console stacks a Chrysler pushbutton shifter in
front of hidden controls for modern air conditioning. Like-new
carpet bridges the gap between custom door panels. And in front of
the driver, an old school steering wheel laps a body-matched
column.
With a stout drivetrain, an excellent restoration and stunning
aesthetics, this super cool MoPar combines big swagger with big
appeal. It's fast. It's fun. And the addition of conveniences like
power steering, disc brakes, air conditioning and custom upholstery
simply sweeten the deal. Longing for a lights-out resto-mod that's
built to please? Take a long look at this impressive 1970
Charger!
