The Cadillac Series 62 was produced from 1940-1964 to replace the Cadillac Series 61 and directly compete with the LaSalle Series 52, the Buick Roadmaster and the Pontiac Torpedo. Caddie’s 62 had a sleek torpedo-style, C-body platform and a noticeably slanted windshield.
The interior was 5 inches wider than its predecessor and, with a column-mounted shift lever, could easily seat six passengers. The distinctive grille had the same pointed shape as in 1939, but the bars were heavier and fewer.
Since it was only produced in 1940 and 1941, the Series 62 four-door convertible is a highly desirable find. The engine is a 346 cubic inch (5.7 L) Monobloc V8 with a 3-speed selective synchromesh manual transmission.
This convertible sedan is very presentable with an excellent frame-on restoration. All door gaps, including hood and trunk, fit as they should. The glove-soft leather interior is in beautiful condition, and the art deco dash is near-perfect. All the gauges are clear and work well, as do the correct heater and the radio, and the added seat belts insure safety. It boasts only 14,285 miles and sports Hankook LT 215/85 R16 radial tires.
Coming from an estate, the car was reportedly restored 8 years ago, but it shows as if it were fresh. It successfully completed the 2019 New York CCCA Caravan in Saratoga Springs with no issues and ran flawlessly all day at 65 mph. It’s the perfect convertible sedan for your next CCCA tour.
