For Sale: 1963 Mercedes-Benz 190SL in Stratford, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

  • The Mercedes-Benz 190SL was initially introduced in 1954 at the New York Auto Show. It was billed as an attractive, more affordable alternative to the highly exclusive 300SL. It featured many of the beloved styling cues from its big brother and is a truly stunning car in its own right. It was based on a modified version of the Mercedes W121 chassis and featured an entirely new Type M121 BII 1.9L inline-four engine with a single overhead cam. The engine was largely based off of the 300SL’s inline-six and was fed by a pair of twin-choke Solex carburetors. The small inline-four produced a very respectable 120 horsepower and proved to be such a success that a detuned version was used in the W120 sedan. Mercedes-Benz’s new lightweight luxury roadster was an instant success on the road, track, and even rally stages.

This beautiful 190SL has been exceptionally well cared for throughout its life, receiving a recent refurbishment. The car is finished in a stunning grey metallic paint that perfectly suits the pristine Bordeaux interior and has a matching soft top. The factory 1.9L engine has been fitting with a pair of Weber DCOE 40 carburetors, providing noticeable improvement to overall performance. It is a joy to drive, with power moving smoothly through the factory 4-speed manual transmission and is truly the perfect enthusiasts’ 190SL.
