For Sale: 1948 Chevrolet Fleetline in Middlefield, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

  1948 Chevy Fleetline Rat Rod

First off, one doesn't often see a post war car set up as a rat rod, sure they're out there but you don't them at the same rate you do older pre-war models.

Several years ago the owner saw the bare bones of this project sitting in his town with a for sale sign on it.

He jumped on the chance to get into this project and had all sorts of fun ideas.

The car is a 1948 Chevrolet Fleetline which gives it the long, sweeping roofline. The chassis (complete frame, engine/trans and front and rear suspension ) however, is from a 1992 Chevy S-10 pick up.

The engine is a 2.8L V6, fuel injected, running true dual exhaust with cable pull cut out that allows for a totally open exhaust note through the shotgun side pipes. The regular dual exhaust routes out through glass packs and out the rear of the car. The transmission is the stock GM 5 speed, sending power through the stock S-10 rear axle (10 bolt, 7.5" ring gear).

The car is also equipped with power steering and power brakes. The AC compressor is hooked up and a vintage air under dash unit comes with the car so one can set it up with AC if so inclined.

When he purchased the car it was running but the body hadn't been really attached, there was no interior and it was a rusty brown.

His first job was to to fully attach the body with hockey puck mounts and welded braces/crossmembers, etc.

He then set out to personalize his creation.

The floor was cleaned up, patched and then coated with bedliner/undercoat, with a layer of sound deadener and insulation over that. That was all topped off by a red/black speckled shag carpet... Black leather seats (F&R) from a Chrysler Lebaron were set into place (driver's seat is power), new gauges, heat, new GM ECU, battery, alternator, starter, AM/FM/CD stereo with sub, amp and four speakers, replaced the old gas tank with a new plastic one from a Jeep Wrangler along with the assorted fuel pump and sender... Then came RatFink and the skulls... He tossed some paint on it and while at a show, had local pinstripe artists Fred Luck and Kristin Haddad (KillustrateIt.com) lay out their artistry on it. All the lights work including the red "cop light" and the siren, taillights/brake lights are LED.

He's enjoyed it at shows, however, I think his favorite time was bringing his kids out trick or treating with it, when he set up skeletons in the trunk and had red lights set up under the hood and rocker panels, as he slowly cruised along while his kids ran between houses...

The car runs and drives beautifully, has no fluid leaks and the Firestone white walls tires were just fitted a year or so ago.

She's ready to be enjoyed as is or to personalize it to your own fun and funky ways.

Totally turn key and ready to go.
