Vehicle Description
Combine one of the most iconic cars ever to roam the boulevard with
a host of well-chosen upgrades geared to enhance its driving
experience, and the results are going to be worth taking a good
long look at. This 1955 Chevrolet Nomad Restomod fulfills every bit
of the promise implied by that inspired pairing. A thorough, frame
off restoration has transformed it into a stellar classic that
would be equally at home on the car show circuit as it would be
providing plenty of fun filled miles on the asphalt.
With their generously stout proportions and extensive assembly of
cabin glass, Nomads are head-turners to begin with, but the skilled
workmanship that's been lavished on this specimen really makes it a
standout. It wears an inspired take on the two tone color schemes
the Chevys of the mid-'50s are known for and both the Ruby Red
Metallic backdrop and the Pearl White draped over the roof and
pillars are in top form, with a deep shine and a silky smooth
texture from front to back. There's quite a bit of chrome on board
and all of it - from the elaborate grille and rocket emblem in
front to the vertical bars accenting the liftgate in back - is in
great shape. Below the paint, the car is rock-solid as well - just
under 65 years ago, it rolled off a Los Angeles assembly line and
has spent its life steering clear of corrosive, salt-lined
roads.
Tasteful custom upgrades added to an interior retaining most of its
original sensibilities has created an outstanding result. Most of
the furnishings inside the doors have a familiar, authentic
appearance to them, but represent visual improvements over the
originals - a sort of Nomad 2.0 take on styling. Both rows of bench
seating are dressed in two tone vinyl covers that fit perfectly and
show no perceptible wear. A full width underdash panel has been
blended into the mix to house the air conditioning system, which is
in perfect working order, as well as an AM/FM/CD stereo with
satellite connectivity that teams with an array of door mounted
speakers inside the cabin to offer a strong audio experience. A
stout, billet-centered steering wheel takes its place on the
tilting column and the dash area wears its signature textured
chrome accent and houses a fresh set of AutoMeter gauges in the
instrument panel.
At the same time the entire drivetrain and suspension were being
lifted out of its original Corvette home to take its place on this
Nomad, all the professionally executed modifications were made to
seamlessly accommodate the new components. The fuel injected 350
cubic inch V8 at the center of the engine compartment is perfectly
framed by the color matched firewall and inner fenders surrounding
it and there's not so much as a wire out of place. The motor pairs
with a 4-speed automatic 700r4 transmission that provides both
seamless shifts and low RPM highway cruising and is running in top
form. An aluminum radiator now sits up front to keep operating
temperatures under control. This Chevy rides on a thoroughly
upgraded suspension and steering system, so the overall driving
experience it provides is top notch - power rack and pinion makes
this sizable ride easy to maneuver and a quartet of power disc
brakes bring the car to dependable and prompt stops. A set of
show-stopping staggered chrome Tyfun 764 wheels - 18" in front and
20" in back - adds just the right touch to this masterfully
configured classic.
