Vehicle Description
2006 Ford Mustang Shelby GT H
In September of 1965, Shelby American General Manager Peyton Cramer
struck up a deal with Hertz to offer the 1966 GT350H Mustang as a
rental car. The program was a clever one for Ford and Shelby as it
worked to promote the Shelby Mustang to potential buyers. That's
right; if you were a Hertz Sports Car Club member back in 1966 (and
25 years of age), you could drive off the rental car lot in a
performance 306hp Mustang fastback. Total cost: $17 a day and 17
cents a mile. Not a bad deal by today's standards and not a bad
deal back then.
Resurrecting the idea of "Rent a Racer" program Ford and Hertz
teamed up with an offering not unlike 1966 where this time (2006)
they produced 500 black and gold painted and badged GT350 "H" (for
Hertz) cars for rental. They then sold these to the public. We give
you for consignment a very nice very low mileage #177 of 500
examples from 06, and a two-owner car, the first being Hertz.
Exterior
With shades of OJ Simpson high stepping his way through the Newark
airport, this gold striped black painted beauty with laser straight
panels, pristine paint, and a rear spoiler we are now in Hertz rent
a racer heaven. Front fog lamps, dual power sport mirrors, and
premium painted cast aluminum wheels this car is all original, just
like one you could get by stepping up to the counter. Integrated
bumpers also sporting the ends of the gold stripes, give this car a
low, mean look. The hockey stick cove is gone but is now mimicked
by a bump out cove on the front of the rear quarters which butts up
to a flat paneled door.
Interior
With a swing of the door we are met with black leather trimmed high
backed sport buckets. The driver's seat is 6-way power and there is
a split fold 2 plus 2 rear seat setup. A center console splits the
buckets and houses a futuristic "T" handled cast aluminum shifter.
Deep round gauges are attached to a center square cluster and have
nice shiny bezels to highlight them in their black backgrounds.
White backlight gives them a sense of glowing and make them pop out
of the dash at you. This all original interior is in beautiful
condition and could be showroom ready. Don't forget the Shaker
audio system that has a 6-CD player and an aftermarket MP3 setup.
Touchdown!
Drivetrain
The big 4.6 Liter 3 valve V8 is tucked into the clean engine bay.
It is fed by electronic fuel injection and has a 5R55S 5-speed
automatic transmission on back. For the pumpkin it is 8.8 inches
and has 3.55 gears and TracLoc axle. Now that's what I call
Juice!
Undercarriage
The consigner tells us this car was never driven in bad weather,
and the undercarriage proves this true, with nary a drip mark
underneath. Independent coil spring suspension is up front and
there is 3-link rear suspension is seen. Power disc brakes are all
around, and a dual exhaust works its way from front to rear.
Drive-Ability
With low mileage cars we don't like to fool around too much on the
test drive, but we can report all is well with starting, idling,
running fast and slow and the 5-speed automatic is smooth as a
baby's behind. Please stand for the National Anthem....
Number 177 of 500 2006 foray into the rental car biz, this GT350-H
low mileage is a fantastic example 2 owner car. A piece of history
if you will, showroom condition, well cared for and now could be
your black and gold H fantasy. He's at the 30, the 20, the 10, look
at that S.O.B. go!!!
