Vehicle Description
Dressed in an appealingly flashy color and propelled with
enthusiasm by what is almost certainly its original engine, this
1964 Ford Galaxie 500 Fastback is a great looking mid-'60s cruiser
and a sterling example of Ford's design wizardry during its era. It
retains a thoroughly authentic appearance both inside and out and
has been consistently garage kept since its restoration.
As a '64, this vintage Ford closed out the first generation of
Galaxies, doing so with a noticeably more sculpted and aerodynamic
exterior - the result of the model's participation in NASCAR
competition - that includes a stylish fastback rear roofline
introduced the year before. It strikes a magnetic appearance,
decked out in a fiery shade of red that presents nicely, with a
great shine and a smooth finished from front to back. As was the
stylistic norm during this era, there's plenty of chrome on board
this lengthy classic - the stretches of side trim alone literally
span the entire length of the car - and it's in consistently strong
condition. It's got an agile look for a generously proportioned
car, an appearance created in part by the forward placement of its
front wheels and there's a pair of rear fender skirts standing by
in the trunk to help accentuate the car's magnetic, low-slung
stance. Well-aligned, with flush fitting doors, hood and deck lid,
this is a capable looking ride that beckons you to climb behind the
wheel and get on the road.
Open the driver's side door and climb inside and you'll be greeted
by a fresh-looking black vinyl interior. Here, you'll find an array
of original components that are in consistently great condition,
starting with the two rows of bench seating at the center of the
cockpit, which show very little wear and loom over an expanse of
black carpet that's in outright excellent shape. The Galaxie's
ample wheelbase translates into quite a bit of space inside the
doors - there's more than enough legroom both fore and aft to keep
your contingent of passengers happy. Beyond the factory-issue
steering wheel, the dash area offers a broad stretch of chrome
trim, a supple, uncracked pad and an instrument cluster that houses
a set of gauges that still feature their original design and are
easily readable behind their clear lenses. An AM/FM/Cassette stereo
- the only variation from stock in sight - is on hand to provide
your tunes while on the road. You'll have no shortage of luggage
space - the trunk area in back is amply sized and looks very clean,
with a full-size spare sitting toward the front.
Everything is looking convincingly stock beneath the hood, where a
period correct 352 cubic inch V8 stands by, with its air cleaner
and valve covers dressed in sharp gold paint. Fed by a 4-barrel
carb, the motor starts up without delay and is in good running
form, thanks to a recent tune up that also left it with a new set
of ignition wires and distributor cap. The added electric fan up
front helps keep operating temperatures in check as the engine
pairs with a 3-speed automatic Cruise-o-matic transmission that's
shifting flawlessly and the added Dynomax dual exhaust sends a nice
deep note out of the tailpipes. This Ford classic sits on a set of
14" steel wheels with chrome spinner hubcaps. Below, the
undercarriage is about as clean and solid as any you'll ever come
across on a car of this era.
This 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 Fastback provides a level of originality
and a rock solid running condition that would be hard to beat. Call
