Vehicle Description
She's clean, she's pretty, and she's fast. There are plenty of good
reasons to make this 1997 Firebird Trans Am WS6 your own. The
Firebird's lofty position in muscle car lore is well documented,
and 1997 was a good year for this potent Pontiac. After a few years
absence, the WS6 package was back with a vengeance, creating the
quickest and fastest production Firebirds ever produced (1). This
is a nicely loaded example as documented in its original window
sticker. Of course it has air, cruise, tilt and stereo (an optional
500 watt Monsoon version, by the way), but it also boasts the
coveted "Ram Air Performance and Handling Package" an option that
represented more than 10 percent of the total vehicle price when
new. That very important and desirable WS6 code is there on the
original factory manifest verifying the authenticity of the car.
Power comes from the proven LT1 5.7L (350 cubic inches to
old-school fans) Corvette engine. This one gets a boost in the form
of a Powerdyne centrifugal supercharger, good for about 6 psi.
Manageable but effective. You get the maximum benefit due to the
expertly installed Custom Hypertech Supercharger Tuning Chip. The
breathing process is completed through a Dynomax performance
exhaust system. The tone is so good, you may find yourself driving
with the stereo off most of the time. Right in the palm of your
hand is a super solid Hurst Billet/Plus Competition Shifter for
precise control of the 6-speed manual plus that inimitable Hurst
feel. And they're not just any leather seats. Pontiac calls them
"articulating custom seats with adjustable lumbar supports and
articulating headrest." Let's just say they're really comfortable.
Are you getting the picture of what driving this WS6 Trans Am is
like? It's mild mannered enough to be driven anywhere, but all the
necessary ingredients are here for a true high performance ride,
with a touch of classic. All the paperwork is here too, from the
original window sticker right through all the receipts for the
performance hardware. The color is simply called "Bright Red,"
representative of the straightforward, bold attitude of this
classic Bird. What about value? No less an authority than Hagerty
says, "collectors have begun to understand their significance.
Values are on the rise."(2) This invitingly attainable 1997 Pontiac
Firebird Trans Am WS6 T-top Coupe is here now. But it should be
there, in your garage. (1) (2) from Hagerty Insurance "WS6 - Here's
