The Jaguar XJS was a very popular model for Jaguar which explains why it had such a long run. Introduced in 1975, the XJ-S was still out of the ordinary with a twelve cylinder engine in a production car. Only supercars at the time were known for having such exotic engines such as Lamborghini and Ferrari. The design and development, directed by William Heynes Chief Engineer and Technical Director had begun in the late 1960s by the code name of project XJ27, with an initial shape penned by Malcolm Sayer, but after his death in 1970 it was completed by the in-house Jaguar design team, headed by Doug Thorpe. The XJ-S compared well with its contemporary Lamborghinis and Ferraris; it was able to accelerate to 60 MPH in 7.6 seconds and had a top speed of 140MPH. They are great cars and in 1982, the new V12 XJ-S actually won first and second at the RAC Tourist Trophy race at Silverstone. The XJS was a car that was ahead of its time and was produced for a long time with slight upgrades throughout the production, finally ending production in 1996.
This 1990 Jaguar XJS convertible has just 35,000 original miles from new and has been well taken care of for its entire existence. Retaining its original red paint and original black leather upholstery this XJS is almost as perfect as the day it was sold new. The 5.3 liter V12 engine runs extremely well and the automatic transmission shifts as it should. The Interior is in great condition and the wood veneer is also in perfect condition on the dash. The power convertible top is in good condition and it goes up and down as it should. Overall this V12 XJS is a really nice original low mileage car and is ready for top down driving.
