Vehicle Description
1957 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster
DID YOU KNOW: In 1957, anyone seeking to purchase a Corvette could
actually purchase a genuine racing version. When placing the order,
consumers had the option of selecting the EN build code which would
allow them to build a true Corvette race car. Chevy warned that the
EN version was not for the street and actually refused to include
heaters on cars equipped with the racing package. However, some
researchers say that the EN code is unverified. Maybe one day an EN
fuelie Vette will grace our halls and we can have solid
verification!
With a mere 4,000 miles on it since a major engine rebuild,
steering box rebuild, front suspension rebuild, and a new wiring
harness, as well as period correct two tone paint, this car is now
all buttoned up, and everything on this car actually works. For the
serious enthusiast a must look at, for the classic Corvette
collector, a grab it before its gone, for the hobbyist a head
turner, literally something in this car for everyone who is
remotely interested in a classic Corvette.
Exterior
Restored exterior and then painted in original Onyx Black, and Inca
Silver coved glory, there are very few faults to make a note of.
Chrome is near perfect, badging is all there, and even the wheels
are the correct steel with the polished faux knockoff caps and wide
white rubber, which are brand new. This body has benefitted
tremendously from being totally stripped, painted then
re-assembled, it's that good!
Interior
A brand new Venetian red interior covered in pristine vinyl, is the
perfect complement to the exterior two tone. In the door panels are
seen the power window switches which work but the passengers window
needs some assistance going up. A working Wonderbar radio converted
to AM/FM is neatly mounted within the dash. Vinyl within the doors
and seat inserts had been embossed with a square 3D pattern and is
surrounded by clean smooth bolsters. Dual eyebrow dash stretches
from door to door and has excellent all working gauges. Carpeting
is above excellent, and has leather stitching seamed edging and
also in bright red. The beautiful headliner also has the embossed
square pattern on it, and is fabulous to look at, almost giving you
vertigo.
Drivetrain
A correct 283ci V8 which working with the dual Carter 4-barrel
carburetors attached will pump out 270hp. A correct T10 4-speed
manual transmission is attached to the back of this original mill,
and it sends power to the back via a 3.55 geared rear. As one would
expect with a restoration of this caliber, the engine is looking
just great in the totally restored engine bay.
Undercarriage
Solid welds, straight X-frame steel, clean wheel wells, all working
mechanicals, I cannot say enough as to the meticulous attention to
detail that has been put into the restoration of this car. 4-wheel
drum brakes are on all four corners. New rear springs, and a new
front suspension has been added according to this consigner. One
note is a small section of the X Frame has been notched and can be
clearly seen in our photographs.
Drive-Ability
This is one of those cars you really want to drive but feel like
you need to wrap yourself in plastic prior to entering...it is that
good. We got in with our shoes off, and kick started this beauty
which fired immediately. A great sound emanated from the exhaust,
and we gently popped the clutch, and began out test drive. It drove
great, shifted smoothly, steering was with ease, and handling was
nicely..well..handled! A nice experience.
Quality, Quality, Quality with a capitol Q on this restoration,
which is correct, utilizes all original parts, and pays attention
to every detail. A wonderful color combination, and one of the most
pristine interiors I've seen here at Classic Auto Mall, and we have
lots of "Vettes". A beautiful C-1 nimble warship living up to its
name.
