The SLR McLaren was born from the Mercedes-Benz and McLaren
partnership during their marriage in Formula 1. 2008 Was the 50th
anniversary for Mercedes-Benz and they wanted to make their mark
against Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche with a supercar roadster
of their own.
This SLR McLaren wasn't built on some regular assembly line in
Stuttgart Germany, the start out with the 626 hp engines being
hand-assembled by Mercedes in house works AMG shop. Once completed
they are sent to McLaren in England where the special bodies are
built.
The SLR roadster body wasn't an SLR Coupe chopped down, they were
entirely new bodies. They are made of 3-layer Carbon Fiber at
McLaren's race shop. Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic is about 5x
stronger than steel in a crush test and half of the weight. The
entire chassis of the car is a Carbon Fiber structure with aluminum
reinforcements.
There is not another car in the world that is built like an SLR
McLaren, when you open the hood in its two-stage process and see
the raw carbon fiber it looks as though your looking at the F1 race
car. The exhaust exits outside the bottom edges of the front
fenders. They aren't here just for show, they were engineered here
with a purpose, it keeps the catalytic converters hot, it helps the
engine breathe better and it allowed the engineers to keep the
entire belly of the car flat for aerodynamics.
Once you hit the "Push Button" shifter this Supercharged AMG V8
comes to life!
This particular example has 8k miles and is in stunning condition.
We just went through the car and it received our 2 stage paint
correction so the paint is flawless. The interior is in excellent
condition and shows virtually no wear. The car just underwent a
fluid service change an is ready to be enjoyed.
