Vehicle Description
The owner purchased this 1957 Chevrolet in 1985. It was the most
solid, 'rust free', unmolested '57 he had seen, and he had been
looking for a several years. From that point owner drove it almost
daily and enjoyed the heck out of it. It had older lacquer paint
which needed to be redone. All it needed was to be stripped and
repainted. In 1989 it was done. The work progressed from a strip
and paint to the next thing owner knew he had it off the frame.
During that time owner had read about the work Mark Campbell at
Street & Performance was doing with Tuned-Port fuel injection, and
wound up having Mark deliver a new ZZZ engine and polished
Tuned-Port fuel injection system. He delivered it in person to the
South-East Street Rod Nationals in Tampa. Back to the car itself,
every nut, bolt, screw, washer, bearing, bushing, and suspension
component was replaced. All the stainless trim was shipped out,
straightened and polished. All the chrome was refinished by
Qual-Chrome who had a good name back then. All Sikkens products
were used from the bare metal up. The Sikkens factory paint rep was
with owner when the Porsche Guards Red finish was applied.
Installed were dropped spindles and power disk brakes, a 605 power
steering box, an Air-tique air conditioning unit, leather (not
vinyl) and tweed interior, Mercedes-Benz carpeting, and Billet
Specialties wheels. At the time owner was single and didn't care
about how much the build was costing. You can see the plaque it was
awarded its first time shown at a Classic Chevy International meet
in Orlando. It scored a 991 out of 1000 possible points. It's a
stand-up car and can be bought for far, far less than was spent to
build it. Within the relatively recent past it has had a new fuel
tank, fuel gauge sending unit, and had the injectors cleaned. You
know about the 'crap' fuel we get today. Owner is 77 years old and
has lost interest in the old cars. Owners has changed drastically
and this gorgeous car.
