Description:

Of all the motorcycles Harley produced for the military, the Harley-Davidson WLA was by far the most common – though that doesn’t mean it’s easy to find nowadays. Based on the WL (W – a model line of bikes, L – high compression, A – Army), this bike helped create a dramatic rise in Harley’s popularity as surplus bikes were sold to civilians, many of whom were servicemen that had come back from the war and wanted a bike like the ones he rode or saw during wartime. This specific model is a 1-C and it was only produced for 3 weeks total this one was one week prior to Pearl Harbor. Total of 404 units produced between Nov 21st -December 10th 1941 under Contract W-398-QM-10530. I will give production numbers on the bottom.

This WLA’s overall condition is fantastic / museum quality. It runs and drives as it did in the 40s! It is 90% original but shows extremely well. This bike still retains the factory 6-volt system, and it fires up easily. The leather saddlebags are custom made in Europe with a correct soft grain texture (not pebble grain). There is a Thompson Machine gun mount up front, along with a surplus shovel mount and shovel accessory.  The electrical wiring for the bike is brand new OE spec styled and shows excellent. The High headlight, long seat 7 bracket, with the special front brake handle, horn with hinged face are only standard for the 1-c Model and not used in the later WLA production line up. Paint is a 1st use flat OD green and changed later in the war (very rare)

This is a museum quality WLA that you can drive to events with ease. It does not need anything to enjoy. It runs excellent!
