For the buyers who were in the market for a convertible in 1971, there was no finer choice in the world than the 280 SE 3.5 cabriolet. It was the fastest, most lavish, and most expensive convertible offered by Mercedes-Benz - arguably the finest automobile manufacturer in the world at the time. In addition to the mechanically advanced and uprated V8 engine, inside the car, passengers are treated to the level of understated elegance that one would expect in a car of this caliber. Burled walnut dashboards and sumptuous leather seating ensured that the passengers not only drove in style, but in utmost comfort. Nineteen seventy-one was the only year that this model was imported into the U.S., with just 802 reported entering the U.S. Mercedes would not build another four-place convertible for over 20 years.

Within the last decade, the Low-Grill Cabriolet has received a number of cosmetic and mechanical services, freshening and restorative work. Overall, the car presents quite well with very nice finishes, excellent panel fit and impressive road manners. The luxurious cabin features cold air conditioning, power windows and radio, complemented by custom Coco mats across the interior and trunk - paired to a matching top boot cover for open motoring. The leather seating was reupholstered in 2008 and wood refinished by Madera Concepts in 2014, while correct Medium Blue Metallic paint was applied in years past. A set of top latch handles in slip case reside in the glove compartment. All lights, gauges and safety equipment operate as they should, including new � inch Maxxis whitewall tires, wiper blades and Mercedes-Benz battery. The current mileage of 36,000 is believed to be original. Driving this incredibly plush and contemporary car will truly spoil your classic car outlook.

The undercarriage appears very solid, with spot welds visible throughout the vehicle and structural integrity. Both engine and luggage compartments display correct and bright finishes, along with decals, plaques and tags. The rear trunk contains a correct vinyl mat, car cover in custom bag, original tool roll, spare assembly and emergency accessories.
