Oldsmobile sales jumped almost 100,000 units in 1969, and the division passed Plymouth for fifth place in the U.S. market. The bigger cars grew 4 inches in length, but the entry-level F-85 (now just one model), the Cutlass, the Cutlass S and the 4-4-2 received a minor facelift, with headlights moved closer together and vertical taillights.
The 1969 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 was its own separate series for the second year with Sports Coupe (2,475 sold) two-door Hollywood Hardtop (19,587), Convertible (4,295) and Hurst/Olds Hardtop (906). These included W-30 models with a 360 bhp 400 cid V8, and W-31 models with a 325 bhp 350 cid V-8. Both engines were significantly hotter than the stock units with big valves, high-lift cams and either Hurst 4-speeds or Turbo-Hydramatic dual-gate auto shifters. The 1969 big-block W-30 package was actually cheaper than the W-31, which cost $310. Less well-known was the W-32 option, which offered the same cold-air intake package but a mildly tuned 400 cid engine. In all, about 300 W-32s were built.
