In the 1960’s, the legendary music group The Beatles took the world by storm with their music. Not content to be limited to records, the radio and relatively infrequent live performances, the lads from Liverpool explored several creative outlets. One of those endeavors was an animated film, titled “Yellow Submarine”. The title song from the film’s soundtrack was a huge hit for the group, and one of the relatively few where drummer Ringo Starr performed lead vocals.
Somewhere in time (around 1990, we believe) there existed a huge Beatles fan with exceptional fabrication skills and a lot of spare time who decided to pay homage to the group and the film by creating this one-of-a-kind tribute. While some (maybe tens of thousands) would ask “Why?”, this uber-fan simply said “Why not?” and the result is what you see here. In the realm of Beatles memorabilia, this is most definitely one of the most unique items available and would be great for parades and shows!
Just about every aspect of this vehicle was hand-fabricated and the attention to detail was to the point of obsession! The drivetrain composed of a 7HP Briggs & Stratton vertical shaft motor and a lawn mower transmission make this a rolling, mobile piece of art befitting the psychedelic 60’s. It’s a safe bet you won’t find another one of these no matter what parade or show you attend!
Seriously, the fabrication work is extremely high quality and despite being almost 30 years old it still presents very well. Replace the non-working vintage cassette deck with a more modern system and blast your favorite Beatles tunes while you chase the Blue Meanies!
