Vehicle Description
Draped in a two tone color scheme that's about as evocative of its
era as any you're likely to find on the road, this 1979 Oldsmobile
Cutlass Hurst/Olds W-30 represents one of the last joint ventures
between the automaker and the heralded aftermarket performance
expert in top tier status. If late '70s curb appeal is what you're
after, this classic definitely moves toward the top of the "must
see" list and its rock-solid running condition makes it a pleasure
to take out on the road.
This special edition Olds makes a very strong impression, with its
exterior still clad in its original and striking black and gold
pairing that will stand out in any automotive crowd. The color
combination is a definite head turner and is sure to bring back
plenty of memories - the gold running over the broad hood and onto
the roof is in top form, as are the prominent W-30 emblems on the
front fenders, and a freshening up of the accompanying black draped
across the sides and rear roofline will elevate this cruiser to an
even higher level. Up front, the grille - with its distinctive
geometric panels straddling the Olds insignia at the center - sits
over a straight, clean bumper, while in back a compact tan panel
punctuates the deck lid. The windows surrounding the cabin are nice
and clear, with still solid rubber seals in place to keep the
elements out.
The interior, with just one exception, is entirely original and
retains the same sharp factory look it had upon leaving the factory
some 40 years ago. Both the pair of high backed buckets up front
and the bench seat in back remain very well padded, with their
covers showing only the slightest of wear - the back seat appears
nearly unused. The center console running between the buckets is as
clean as you could hope for and houses one of the more
revolutionary technological advances of the era - the signature
"His and Hers" dual gate shifter that allows the automatic
transmission to be navigated much like you would a manual. Just
beyond the stock Oldsmobile steering wheel, the dash area is
accented by a woodgrain insert sitting alongside an instrument
cluster that's still in possession of its factory gauges and an
aftermarket AM/FM/CD stereo - the only variation from an otherwise
stock configuration - is on board to provide your soundtrack while
on the road. This Olds left the assembly line with air conditioning
installed and it's still in top form, blowing strong through the
in-dash vents to keep the cabin nice and comfortable.
This special edition Olds is powered by a 350 cubic inch V8 that's
almost certainly original and sits in a thoroughly stock engine
compartment. It's fed by a 4-barrel carb that was, along with the
alternator, recently replaced in the interest of increased
dependability. The engine pairs with a 3-speed automatic TH350
transmission to make for a vital drivetrain - the running condition
this classic is equipped with really is impressive. Smooth power
steering makes for easy maneuverability, while power brakes with
discs up front provide all the stopping ability you'll need as it
cruises on its set of stock 14" wheels wrapped with Mastercraft
Avenger G/T tires. Below, the undercarriage is ready, willing and
able to provide plenty more miles of future driving fun.
There were only about 2500 of these special edition Cutlasses made
the year this '79 rolled out and most of those have long since
fallen by the wayside, so this 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst/Olds
W-30 offers bona fide collectability to go along with its vintage
curb appeal. Call today!
