Vehicle Description
1940 Chevrolet Master Deluxe
With its wind-swept design and classic good looks, the Chevrolet
Coupe series has always been a rare and highly desirable line of
cars. Not surprisingly, gear heads, customizers and all but 80
years' worth of dedicated fans have elevated it to one of hot
rodding's greatest cultural icons.
Custom built, this 1940 Chevrolet Master Deluxe street rod is truly
masterful in every way. A very well-built piece in the grand
old-school tradition, it maintains a stock appearance with just the
right exterior touches to suggest there is more at work here than
meets the eye, and it does not disappoint. The Chevy's rounded
sheet metal was expertly prepared for the car's highly polished Red
base coat, then clear coat finish, which is highlighted with
excellent chrome and brightwork
Exterior
Finished in red, this 1940 Chevy Master Deluxe shines from head to
toe. Painted over brite work adds a taste of modernization while
retaining the original classic line. (See the grille and front
bumper) Clean metal painted black running boards span between
modestly shaped fenders, which over time later models will do away
with. The curved trunk lid has all the correct badging, giving it a
more original look. The rear bumper has also been blackened and a
chrome tipped exhaust can be seen peeking out below. 15-inch rally
Chevrolet wheels are all around.
Interior
With a swing of any door, including the rear suiciders, wonderful
modern multicolored broadcloth woven hounds tooth panels are mixed
with dark gray cloth, and some lower carpeting. Fine bakelite
bezels and knobs abound on these doors and have very nicely
preserved chromed levers. a couch like front and rear bench also
make use of the broadcloth as well as the dark gray cloth bolsters.
Some mods on the dash which blends with the old art deco chrome
trimmings with a horizontal rectangular blue digital readout
instrument cluster. An aftermarket CD/SD Card MP3 player hangs
below the dash. Smoked gray carpet covers the floors and a nice
tight gray cloth headliner hangs neatly above. Noted is a B&M
shifter in its own custom console in the middle of the front
floor.
Drivetrain
Power is provided by a 350ci Crate Chevy V8 with Edelbrock intake
and 4-barrel carburetor. A floor mounted 3-speed automatic
transmission and 10 bolt rear sum it up.
Undercarriage
Very original and showing the passage of time...but in a good way.
Patina, and slight surface rust, a bit of oil seepage, and a clean
rust-free gas tank can be viewed on the photos provided with this
description. I'll also add that this car is equipped with
independent coil spring front suspension, and leaf spring rear
suspension. Power drum brakes all around and a Magnaflow exhaust
can be seen.
Drive-Ability
The crate engine fired right up, and our transmission took us off
to the races in a flash. Hot rodding at its best, a little noise, a
lot of bling, and some good handling and stopping with those power
brakes. A nice ride and comfy to boot.
A very classic design hot rod, on bright red with a custom interior
and creature comforts that starts right up and will run down the
highway worry free. If you are looking for a comfortable, easy to
drive and statement making street rod, this could be the one that
turns your screws.
