This 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado is reported to be one of two Phantom
examples modified by John Fitch & Co., founded and operated by
noted racer, test driver, and inventor John Fitch. The car was
leased new to the Mutual Insurance Company of Hartford in May 1966
and reportedly was purchased by the selling dealer from the second
owner in 2009. Based on the Toronado and offered through GM
dealerships at a $2k premium, features of the Fitch Phantom include
special paint scheme, fabric sunroof, widened wheels, Koni shocks,
badging and interior trim, ventilated seats, and an uprated 425ci
Rocket V8 with override control for the three-speed automatic
transaxle. Service following its acquisition is said to have
included an a new exhaust, brake service, and new tires. This Fitch
Phantom shows 85k miles and is now offered with its original
manuals, Protect-O-Plate, lease agreement, period insurance
registrations, spare parts, and transferable Connecticut
