Vehicle Description
1976 MG B Roadster
The year 1974 was a crucial one in MGB history, as it was the year
when the world's most beloved British sports car underwent the most
radical changes in its 18-year lifespan. The U.S.-market MGBs built
in January 1974 transitioned from chrome bumpers to what is known
in the industry as rubber bumper cars, to comply with our then-new
NHTSA regulations.
Gracing our halls here at Classic Auto Mall a bloody fine example
of the MGB roadster. Built in Europe in 1975 thus showing the 50th
Anniversary edition badging. The special edition badging was
applied only to MGBs manufactured from June 1975 to December 1975,
and arrived in the US in 1976. Appearing mostly original. This
recently restored MGB runs fine and is looking for a good home.
Exterior
Showing off with no rust, this car is bathed in Damask Red paint.
Some fine scratching, a few chips and dulling are noted with this
exterior paint. A large contrasting gold stripe adorns the sides at
the lower door point and is emblazoned with MGB lettering on the
front quarter. The black bumpers have been epoxied and shine in
difference to the standard dull black bumpers. The original chrome
trim on this car is in good condition. The convertible top in black
functions manually and has some loss of clarity in the plastic
windows, and a repair to the passenger's rear panel. The Consigner
had included a new convertible top with this car. Brands new
Potenza tires are wrapped around Minator 8 spoke mag wheels are on
all 4 corners.
Interior
Dual black buckets covered in faux weave vinyl, and smooth vinyl,
and have a nice bordering of red piping. Dash in black is original
and has the Smith's gauges. An aftermarket handsfree Sony Bluetooth
AM/FM/MP3 radio has been installed. Nice wood steering wheel and
gear shift knob add a smattering of warmth to the otherwise black
interior.
Drivetrain
Opening the hood reveals a recently restored 1.8 liter inline 4
cylinder. This engine sports a side mounted 2-barrel Weber
carburetor, and the engine is painted nicely in red with black
accents. Additional upgrades include an electronic ignition system
assuring fast easy no-nonsense starting, Monza exhaust headers and
a tubular intake manifold ending with twin chrome ANS exhaust tips.
There is a 4-speed manual attached to the rear of the 4 banger.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust, but nothing invasive are seen on this
structurally strong unibody undercarriage. Disc brakes up front and
drum brakes on the rear can be seen as well as independent coil
spring suspension up front, and leaf spring suspension on the
rear.
Drive-Ability
Seated within its comfortable and surprisingly roomy confines, we
turn the key and the 4-cylinder comes to life. It idles smoothly
and sounds good as well. Shifting through the gears is flawless,
and is of a sports car that has been well taken care of.
This car, a post NHTSA creation with its black bumpers, presentable
original paint, that runs well, could be your entry into the sports
car, top down, good handling, fun experience. Come to Classic Auto
Mall and have a gander!
