Fox-body platform, the Ford Mustang had gained significant
performance ground over its immediate predecessors and put it on a
level playing field its cross-town rival, the Chevrolet Camaro.
This example is only one of 993 Mustang GT Convertibles made in
1983, has been lovingly stored in garages and it has fewer than
8,200 original miles! This particular example (VIN code P27) was
made in Ford?s Dearborn, Michigan factory (VIN code F) on June 30,
1983 and shipped by rail to the Milwaukee, Wisconsin district sales
area (DSO 43) on July 28, 1983, where it was delivered to Schmerler
Ford in Racine, Wisconsin and sold on October 6, 1983. It left the
factory with the following options ? intermittent wipers,
Traction-Lok rear differential, Michelin P200/55R-390 TRX blackwall
tires, TRX aluminum wheels, leather-wrapped steering wheel with
tilt column, cruise control, power steering, power brakes with
front discs, power windows, air-conditioning, AM/FM stereo with
cassette deck and Premium sound (code 7), tinted glass and GT and
Light Group packages. The black paint (code 1C) and silver trim are
in overall excellent order, a reflection of the garage-kept
environment this car has been stored in when not driven. The black,
power-folding convertible top (code A) is in a condition similar to
the paint and trim. Based on its treatment for the past 36 years,
the car?s body is predictably solid and straight, its engine bay is
very tidy, the battery appears new and the body-colored bumpers fit
well and look great. As noted above, this car retains its original
Michelin TRX radials, size 220/55R-390 all around and each one is
mounted on original ?triangle? TRX aluminum wheels. The wheels are
in excellent order and evoke early ?80s charm while the tires are
in good, original order. Under the hood with a power bulge is
Ford?s 5.0L High-output V-8 with Holley four-barrel carburetor and
a new intake manifold (code F). Mated to this motor are a
five-speed manual transmission and a 3.08:1 rear end with
Traction-Lok (code Z). Driver convenience features include
air-conditioning, power steering, power brakes with discs in front,
tilt column, cruise control and power windows. Inside, the vinyl
front buckets and rear bench seats with cloth seating surfaces are
all in very good condition (code FA), as is the black carpet and
leather-wrapped, four-spoke steering wheel. The instrument panel
has a full array of gauges and looks great, as do the inner door
panels. The center console looks good and has the central warning
system for things like burned-out taillights or low fuel level. An
AM/FM stereo with cassette deck and Premium Sound (code 7), rounds
out the interior. While most of the Mustang was carried over in
late 1982 for 1983, there were some changes and improvements on the
then five-year-old ?Fox-platform? model. The front fascia was
restyled with a more rounded nose and reshaped grill. New, wider
horizontal taillights with dedicated amber turn signals replaced
the vertical sectioned units. This was also the first Mustang to
the use the ?Blue Oval? Ford emblem on the exterior, front and
rear. Convertible competition to this Mustang in 1983 included
Chevrolet?s Cavalier, Dodge?s 400/600, Mercury?s Capri, Pontiac?s
2000 Sunbird, Toyota?s Celica and Volkswagen?s Rabbit Cabrio.
Documentation includes original owner?s manual, original warranty
information, original operation guide, most of the original window
sticker, original motor vehicle purchase contract copy, Marti
reports, original convertible top instructions, original
convertible dust top cover instructions and copy of CARFAX report.
