Firebird 3.4L V6 and a T5 5 Speed Transmission. The car has
American Racing Wheels on it that permits an upgrade to 205 14
tires. It currently has 185 14 tires on it which greatly improved
the ride over the skinny OEMs. The convertible top is in good
condition and the plastic windows are clear. It also has a roll
bar. The car is a reliable and durable driver with the American
drive train in it. It can be used for touring as it is comfortable
to drive for long periods at highway speeds. Performance is very
similar to a Sunbeam Tiger with the Ford V8 engine and T4 four
speed transmission except that the MGB is about a second quicker on
0-60 times coming in probably less than 6 seconds whereas the Tiger
took more than 7. Having owned a Tiger in my youth, I can say that
the top speed for both cars in very similar. This car is solid and
has been my summer driver for the past 11 years. Steering is
straight and there is no bottoming out of the tires. The rear
springs were replaced several years ago and the rear lever arms
replaced with tube shocks. The previous owner claimed that he never
drove it during the winter either. The car was always garaged for
the entire time that I owned it and I always maintained it. It has
leather seats and the side panels and dash are in good condition.
It could use a floor mat on the driver's side. The car has an
upgraded stereo that includes a USB port for a MP3 memory stick
along with a remote control. Over the 11 years that I have had it,
there has been very little deterioration, if any. So long as you
don't drive it in the snow, it should give you years of use. I put
a new battery in it this year for the first time in 11 years. The
engine has BMC tubular headers on it along with an Edelbrock
aluminum intake manifold and a 390 CFM Holly carb with a Holly
racing accelerator pump cam. Approximate HP is about 200 and is
advertised at 200 for the torque. The 80 MGB was designed to accept
the Rover aluminum V8, so installing the V6 didn't require any
modifications to the fire wall or any other engine compartment
surfaces or structures to accommodate the engine. It took about an
hour and a half to remove the old MGB boat anchor and drop in the
V6 with the kit. The V6/T5 unit was only a little bit heavier than
the MGB OEM 4 Banger/MGB transmission. Another bonus is that there
is plenty of room around the engine to service the V6. My Ford 260
ci V8 was shoehorned into the Tiger's engine compartment and it was
a headache to change the plugs. Finally, the front of the engine is
behind the transverse front axle line thereby enhancing the
handling. The engine starts right up with the turn of a key. The
car will also come with a boot in good condition for when the
convertible top is down and a tonneau cover along with a spare
wheel and tire (not shown). Parts are readily available on the net
for MGBs and are dirt cheap. Parts for the Pontiac engine and
transmission can be purchased at any Chevy Dealership. Entire 3.4L
Firebird and Camaro engines can be bought from recycling yards
around the country for a few hundred dollars that have many miles
left to go on them. The T5 transmissions are ubiquitous as well.
So, keeping it running mechanically shouldn't be difficult or
expensive. *Vehicle Location is at our clients home and Not In Long
