Vehicle Description
1985 GMC Caballero: The GMC Caballero was GMC's version of the
Chevrolet El Camino car/truck hybrid. It was called Sprint from
1971-77, and renamed Caballero (spanish for "Gentleman") when the
line was redesigned along with the rest of GM's A-body line in
1978. The Caballeros shared its mechanicals with the Chevy Malibu
sedan, but had a 9-inch longer wheelbase. Other than different
nameplates it was difficult to distinguish a Caballero from an El
Camino at more than 10 paces distance. It was largely for this
reason that the Caballero never sold near the volume the El Camino
did (many never even knew a GMC version existed), but its rarity
counts as a plus to many El Camino fans and collectors. G-Body and
Future Classics enthusiasts alike can quickly recognize why this
Caballero is one to pay attention to! With only 2,503 Caballeros
rolling off the assembly line in 1985, it is not an easy vehicle to
find. Low production coupled with the fact that this example has
had just one TX owner and only 27k miles multiplies its
collectability exponentially. We have checked this GMC out from
head to tail and found it needed only a new A/C compressor ...
which we installed June 2018. Even the original dash clock works
like new. This GMC has seen one repaint in its original Gunmetal
Grey. Being a 25+ year old vehicle qualifies you and your new GMC
for discounts in inspections, registration, and insurance. There
are not many vehicles under $20k you can drive daily while they
appreciate in value with each passing day. A complete list of
