Vehicle Description
1984 Ferrari Mondial QV Cabriolet
Adhering to its name, Ferrari is certainly known for its innovative
design, handmade automobiles, and plenty of power delivered with a
resonance only a Ferrari can offer up. The word Mondial means
literally involving a large part of the world, which is absolutely
the case when one talks about this iconic automaker.
Here in our numerous halls and rooms at Classic Auto Mall we have
almost everything one can think of for consignment offering at this
time. We only have 2 other Ferraris, and now 1 Mondial
Quattrovalvole (QV but you have to love the Italian language how it
just rolls off your tongue). Blanco con Rosso and bellissimo, this
car will impressionare tu!
Exterior
Certainly, in sync with the times... those being the mid 80's we
see the Italian interpretation of the squared off design theory.
With a penchant for grids and horizontal grilles, integrated
contrasting crash bumpers and a low-slung overall profile, this
Mondial presents nicely. Panels are straight and gaps are minded.
Paint is good, and new on the front spoiler and hood. An extra-long
wheelbase which was necessary to accommodate the mid-engine, and
the car is well balanced. Scuderia Ferrari badging in yellow, and
TRX newly refinished wheels, against the white exterior and it's a
great combo. A note to the top it is convertible, and it is
new.
Interior
Pelle Rosso adorns the door panels, and sports plenty of padding
and stitching. Slight spoiling is seen on both doors in high use
areas. DiPiu' Pelle Rosso covers the bucket seats which drip in
Italian design with their sleek high backs and minimal padding. A
2+2 rear seating arrangement is seen behind the buckets. Square
design in the console shows a chromed gear shift grid and sitting
next to it an early version of what would now be a digital info
center with corresponding warning lights when various functions are
due service or inoperable. Moving back on the console we note
numerous power switches and pushbuttons, some are currently
rendered inoperable. Those are the AC, passenger door power lock,
marker lights, solenoid to open hood, trunk, fuel door, and engine
bay. The latter 4 relegated to a manual pull of a lever to actuate.
A square design dash sits in its own pod atop the dash, and the
original steering wheel is in front of this. Deep red prancing
horse embroidered carpet floods the floors.
Drivetrain
A 3.0 liter Tipo FL08A 32 Valve V8 is engineered into the mid car
engine bay. Bosch K Jetronic injection feeds fossils to the mill,
and it pushes power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual
transmission.
Undercarriage
Looking underneath, we see some early trappings of ground effects
panels and shields. Slight surface rust is seen on the corners of
these panels, but certainly the car remains structurally sound.
Independent suspension and power disc brakes are all around.
Drive-Ability
Typical of an Italian sports car it is tight for the average
American to get in and out, but once you're in its comfortable, and
seems spacious. All controls are within reach, unfortunately many
of the electrics are currently not functioning. Engine ran
smoothly, and shifted with ease, I just had to get accustomed to
the grid.
A good example that could use some electrical work on the power
conveniences side, but you still have access by the manual pulls.
Priced right, this could be your entry into the Ferrari world, and
you can have wind in your hair to boot! Eccitazione Abbondanza
!
