For Sale: 1971 Ford Mustang in Jefferson, Wisconsin

Vehicle Description

This car was built on September 15, 1970 at the Dearborn, MI Ford plant.  It was sold in the Twin Cities.  I believe it lived its entire life in Minnesota.  Please don’t let that scare you.  The previous owner stated it has always been garage kept, never saw winter and seldom saw rain.  My inspection makes that claim plausible.

This car has it original 302-2V engine and C4 automatic transmission.  The rear axle gear ratio is 3.00 to 1.  It has always been Bright Red in color.  The original White Vinyl interior is still in place.

In fact, there is quite a bit about this car that is factory original.  It has only been driven 78,541 miles.  The white convertible top, the black carpet and the red convertible boot are certainly original.  While they are not in perfect condition, they are certainly adequate for a car priced as this one is.

There are a couple of seam splits in the seats.  The carpet is stiff and shows a bit of wear.  The top does not leak, but has some brittle areas.  The glass rear window is in great condition.  The original black dash is nice.

This car was born with power steering, manual drum brakes, power top, pushbutton AM radio, air conditioning and full wheel covers.  There is now an FM convertor added, as were radial tires.

Recent maintenance records tell me that the brakes were just done, the wheel bearings were packed, new air shocks were installed, a new starter and battery were installed and just a month ago the car was serviced and freshly tuned up.  It starts, runs and drives great!

The air conditioning does not work.  I believe it needs to have the Freon charged.  The fuel gauge reads empty.  I changed the sending unit, but that didn’t do the trick.  It could be a wiring issue or a gauge problem.  All other features work properly.  There are three sets of keys.  They lock and unlock the doors and the trunk.  There is a spare tire, jack and lug wrench in the trunk.

The body is very straight and rust-free.  I am guessing the repaint was done 15-20 years ago.  It was not a high quality paint job.  The finish is nice and it shines up brightly.  The disappointment is with the masking.  There are quite a few areas that display overspray.  You don’t see them unless you open the hood or doors.

The chrome is in good condition.  The glass appears to be original and is nice.  The wheel covers are in good condition.  Any imperfections in the paint were nicely touched up.  This is a good looking car!

This Mustang Convertible is very original.  It has been well cared for and we have the receipts to prove that.  It has not been driven harshly and has only been driven sparingly.  It is a wonderful car to drive and looks nice enough that you will be proud to display it at a local cruise night or at your favorite drive-up food joint.

This Ford Mustang Convertible is priced below market value.  You can begin enjoying it immediately.  Just keep the gas tank full.  If you wish to make improvements, you can do so during winter.  There is no reason not to begin enjoying it immediately.
