Vehicle Description
1986 Chevrolet Silverado
The origin for the word Silverado is confusing and varied with each
page you do research from. It has several meanings, however for
this description we will just say it is a truck made by Chevrolet
and is wildly popular.
For consignment if I use the word Resto-Mod loosely it may apply to
this truck. Some modifications, improvements, more power, original
interior, and a flat black moon capped truck that is a bit lower in
ride height than stock specs. Quite an interesting combination and
bordering on menacing. Ultimately a good look, and not something
you'll see every day.
Exterior
Stripped of any badging, this truck retains its original grille,
bumpers and side view mirror attached to the door. A large hood
scoop style hood has been added, and it is pinned on to the truck.
A flip open of the rear gate, and we see a bed liner that would
have been sprayed on, and shows some dings and dents, but is mostly
intact. Our paint gets interesting as it shows a black primer and
is a semi-gloss at best for the texture. Moon caps which are very
cool, and side pipes let them hear ya coming before your
arrival.
Interior
A mixture of red cloth velour, and red vinyl is noted on the door
panels. Power windows are installed, and a small but powerful
speaker is embedded within the upper front of the door. Moving to
the interior bench, it is sporting a seat cover, which we did not
remove, but we can assume it is covering matching velour seats
probably in red. The original dash is attached in front of the
bench and has a carpet top just laying there as protection. Removal
of the carpet reveals no cracks in the dash top. Headliner is
tight, and several ad stickers are noted throughout the interior. A
sea of red carpet in OK condition is covered by rubber floor
mats.
Drivetrain
The mill consists of a bored out 350ci V8 to a now 359 (.60 over).
It has World Heads attached, a 2.02 intake, and 76CC combustion
chambers. On top is an Edelbrock High Rise Intake, similar to the
NASCAR setup. A comp cam thumper, and blackjack headers are
attached. Consigner states that a Demon 750 Carb that is jetted
will come with the truck but is currently not installed. Bringing
up the back of this healthy mill, is a 700 R-4 automatic
transmission with a B&M 2400 Stall Converter.
Undercarriage
A peek underneath, and we some areas of surface rust, but pretty
typical of a truck from this era. All new front suspension made up
of DJM Drop Spindles, and Monroe Air Shocks. The rear has had the
leaf springs removed and replaced with a drop kit for a lower
ride.
With its life mostly spent in the dry air of New Mexico, there is
no rust to speak of on the body, and all panels are very straight
to boot. Some great mods to the engine, menacing flat black primer,
and the moon caps I cannot keep my eyes off of, we have a truck
that you can be assured that no one else has one like it! An
original.
