One of Porsche’s first 400 road going super cars born from its factory's racing program ('Project 930' - the legendary 911/930 Turbo - with 3.0 liter engine in road trim). At 260bhp the Turbo Carrera propels from standstill to 100 mph in 14 seconds and has a speed of 155mph, which is on par or faster that its contemporaries (the Aston Martin’s V8 Vantage, Ferrari’s 512 Berlinetta Boxer and Lamborghini’s Countach). Legendary racing driver Paul Frere stated "It offers the finest blend of ultimate performance and refinement I have ever come across.”
This is the second year of the Porsche Turbo Carrera in the USA, this particular example having been built in November of 1976. It was delivered new to its first owner through well-known southern California Porsche dealer, Chick Iverson Porsche of Newport Beach. It spent long term ownership in Southern California and until being sold to two further Porsche enthusiasts prior to making it to the East Coast and Autosport Designs. In 2016, its owner commissioned a full mechanical restoration of which over $45,000 of receipts are included in the file. The restoration saw a complete engine rebuild, transmission rebuild, front and rear suspension rebuild, brakes and much more. During the mechanical restoration, a Fabspeed exhaust was fitted.
Cosmetically, this Turbo Carrera was in excellent preserved condition with no rust or accident damage, but by 2018, started showing its age due to its original paint and typical signs of period lacquer paint wear. It was then stripped completely, all glass and seals removed and repainted in total. The interior having been cared for throughout the years properly has been kept largely original including the sport seats. We feel its originality is excellent and that it can always be restored to the next level, but cared for originality such as this, cannot be duplicated.
With its classic Turbo Carrera looks and mechanical excellence, this car offers the collect-ability and investment potential that goes hand in hand with its low production figures and its being part of history as Porsche's first road going super car. Driving this extraordinary Turbo Carrera will not disappoint in any way. Priced extremely fairly, we welcome giving it another proper home where it will be cared for and once again enjoyed in the fashion it was meant.
