Vehicle Description
There was no better way to make the personal luxury statement in
1976 than with the Ford Thunderbird. This was the last of the large
boulevard cruisers, and today this is celebrated with an
exceptionally preserved example. So look over all the details -
from the original 460 V8 to the luxurious A/C interior - and soon
you'll understand why this is one of the best values in survivor
classics going.
This was the last year for the sixth-generation T-Bird. The next
year these would be smaller car, and that just seems to go against
the personal American luxury car feel that the Thunderbird has
always represented. That makes this a very significant vehicle, and
why this would be cared for so correctly. This is believed to be
the original application of the Silver Starfire paint, and it looks
absolutely fantastic today for spending four-decades on this earth.
The high gloss really shows off how well the sheetmetal still holds
its unbroken angular creases. Then again, with a coupe that's
averaged 680 miles annually, it has been babied like a good luxury
classic should. You see this carefully preserved history in the
shine of the bumpers, straightness of the trim, and how everything
is complete - right down to the hood ornament. The true elegance is
also shown in the factory burgundy pinstripe that coordinates with
the taut vinyl roof.
The exterior burgundy accents are also a nice preview of the
interior, so this was a well-coordinated classic direct from the
factory. Just like the outside, the inside of this T-bird is
excellently preserved. The carpets, door panels, and headliner are
all in a rich red wine color. And the leather seats have a
fantastic button-top presentation. No matter how many family and
friends are in this classic, everyone will truly feel luxurious
thanks to features like power windows and air conditioning that has
been upgraded to modern R134a for easy servicing. But the best
treats are reserved just for you. The driver's seat is power
adjustable, and the dash is oriented to the driver in this personal
luxury cruiser. So you have easy access to everything from the
factory AM/FM radio to the fingertip cruise control buttons.
With a car that's been so original so far, you'll be quite happy to
see the numbers-matching 460 cubic-inch V8 under the hood. This is
truly survivor grade as the low-mileage motor still has the factory
decals. And when it looks this good so many decades later, then you
know it has received proper service its whole lifetime. But just
because this is a time capsule, doesn't mean you should hesitate
adding miles to the odometer. The motor is strong and smooth like a
classic luxury car should be. Plus, features like a three-speed
automatic transmission, power steering, and front disc brakes make
this T-bird is the perfect any time cruiser.
