Vehicle Description
1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible
You lying so low in the weeds I bet you gonna ambush me You'd have
me down, down, down on my knees Now wouldn't you, Barracuda?
Oh......As the song by HEART goes, so goes the overall look of the
'68 Barracuda, so named after a species of fish that are drawn to
shiny objects. So too you may be with a beautiful example here at
Classic Auto Mall.
We give you a fully restored, buttoned up, very good example of the
1968 Barracuda Convertible. This car has stunning paint, and
straight panels, and is extremely clean and accurate to the
original. Plymouth was not going to be left behind in the muscle
car race, and this car proves that fact. Only 2,840 examples were
produced this year...1968.
Exterior
Take razor straight body panels, make sure they are nearly perfect
(or as close to that as one can get) have them mind their gaps, and
spray on a gorgeous coating of Dark Turquoise Metallic paint,
button up all the chrome and brite work to immaculate condition,
and you have the trimmings of a great classic in beautiful
condition. Paint has a few scratches, but nothing unremarkable for
a driver car from 1968. Oh, and I need to mention the pristine
white canvas convertible top, with a black tonneau cover, which
taking a gaze at our great photos, you'll see it truly is a
stunner. And you cannot beat the Barracuda badging, truly
classic.
Interior
A bit of liberty taken here with a change from the factory black to
now white stitched vinyl, on the door panels, buckets in front, and
rear bench. To add a little extra interest, black headrests were
added to the front buckets, and when the top is down, the back
appears similar with the black tonneau over the rear
bench...genius! A fully restored two tone turquoise with black over
top dash has all the essentials, and the gauges look like almost
new. The original radio is still there and shows a slight cracking
in the upper mounting. Interesting is the roller tuning in lieu of
traditional knobs. Hanging under the dash is an aftermarket
AM/FM/CD, for your listening pleasure. A nice "phallus" shaped
center console houses the original shift lever, ashtray and
storage, and is certainly meant to be subliminal, but is definitely
there. Black carpet is in nice condition, and carpet floor mats are
noted. As with any quality restoration, a look to the trunk yields
near factory condition...niiiiiice!
Drivetrain
All buttoned up under here with a completely restored engine and
engine bay, right back to 1968. Insert a 318ci V8 and make sure it
has a great coat of factory matching orange/red (police car engine)
on the block and valve covers, plenty of supple black hoses, and a
restored air cleaner. A single 2-barrel carburetor feeds the fossil
and air mixture, and power goes back to a A727 Torqueflite 3-speed
automatic transmission.
Undercarriage
Overall as expected with slight surface rust on the typical areas,
however on the ones that count (frame, toe kicks, and floorboards)
it is structurally sound. Even lower door panels in the inside are
very clean with no signs of rust.
