Vehicle Description
1966 Dodge Coronet Convertible
In English, a coronet is a small crown consisting of ornaments
fixed on a metal ring. By one definition, a coronet differs from a
crown in that a coronet never has arches, and from a tiara in that
a coronet completely encircles the head, while a tiara does not. By
a slightly different definition, a crown is worn by an emperor,
empress, king or queen; a coronet by a nobleman or lady.
For consignment an original paint, and interior car, with some 20"
spoked wheels and low-profile tires. Showing patina, you are
viewing the factory paint from 1966. Not perfect, but certainly a
desirable look... that look being original.
Exterior
With plenty of faults, dulling marks, and scratches, we view the
original factory paint, which is designated as Medium Blue
Metallic, although there is very little metallic left. Time has put
a nice patina over this paint, and it definitely has a look. Brite
work, chrome and badging is all correct, however it has suffered
the effects of time with some pitting, rusting and dulling, but
again, original. A new white power convertible top has been
installed and works flawlessly. Interestingly for the look, 20"
chromed spoked wheels wrapped with low profile tires are on all 4
corners, but it is a good contrast and a little surprise to this
original.
Interior
All original in dark blue vinyl with some scuffs, tears, and door
panel dry rotting of carpet on lower portion, but all original
vinyl on seats and door panels. Carpet is also original and shows
wear through on floorpans. Dash appears original, and has some
cracking on the upper padded portion, and shows some chrome wear
off on speedometer surround, and other trim parts. The factory
radio has been removed, and an aftermarket radio hangs below the
dash. In the trunk we see some rust near the rear wheel wells, and
floor matting is dry rotting away.
Drivetrain
A 273ci V8 with an A727 Torqueflite automatic transmission sits in
an original engine bay. Some parts seen are corroded and there is
surface rust on steel parts. It appears the valve covers have been
repainted in red, and an aftermarket chrome air cleaner is sitting
on top.
Undercarriage
A coating of surface rust is noted everywhere underneath. There
appears to have no invasive rust under here, and frame seems
structurally sound. Noted is also invasive rust on the lower doors
on the inside.
Originality abounds here with some issues due to water damage, and
sun damage, however car runs smoothly, starts quickly, and awaits
its next owner to keep it original, or move forward with a little
TLC.
