Founded in 1982, The Vicarage Company in Wolverhampton, England has been restoring and rebuilding Jaguars to uprated and upgraded standards for many years. The Series I E-Type, being one of the most exotic and beautiful cars created, is a prime candidate for the Vicarage treatment. This particular Series 4.2 Coupe was built for the owner of Vicarage.
With the Vicarage upgrades including the custom tuned SU carburetors, the inline 6 cylinder produces over 280bhp, utilizing 4.2 Series III pistons, XJ connecting rods and a late XJ6 ignition system making this E-Type an absolute rocket. It is mated to its 5-speed gearbox based on a Borg-Warner T5. Further upgrades include uprated suspension (torsion bars and springs), more powerful disc brakes, wider chrome wire knock-off wheels and a low-restriction twin exhaust. Currently this E-Type is fitted with a traditional E-Type wood steering wheel, but the Nardi leather wrapped steering wheel as fitted by Vicarage years ago is included.
A Vicarage E-Type inhabits an even more rarefied atmosphere, with a combination of looks, build quality and performance that is even more sensational today than when it first awed the motoring world back in 1961. A recent road test attests to the car performing flawlessly in every way and is indeed ready for immediate use and enjoyment. It is quite simply a very tasteful build with excitingly manageable upgrades for a vintage rally or standard, fast road use.
