Vehicle Description
Beautiful inside and out, this 1979 Jaguar XJ-L has a hidden
secret. The motor is more robust and torque-happy thanks to an
upgrade to 350 cubic inches of Chevy power. So you can look great
while having the confidence to go the distance in this A/C classic
sedan.
For many of us this is the last of the great classic Jaguar sedans.
The Series II carried all the best elements of the XJ line. It had
the unmistakable classic features like the front sheetmetal that
contoured to the quad headlight design, the sleek cat-like profile,
and smooth rear end that tapered inward to give this sedan a final
sporty touch. It's lower-slung than its successor and utilizes
tasteful chrome accenting. And perfectly acceding this look is a
silver metallic finish that really loves to highlight this iconic
European design every time the sunshine finds this Jaguar. It's all
so dignified that it gives not exterior hint to the wilder heart of
this ferocious cat.
The interior has the same incognito image that just gives the
impression of a terrific original-style classic. The black leather
seats feel supple, and in fact, a longer wheelbase "L" edition
makes this a great car to share with family and friends. You'll
marvel at how the whole presentation has a great vintage look -
from the Smiths gauges, to the power window switches, to the AM/FM
8-track stereo. The steering wheel is an upgraded unit, but it fits
in so nicely with the wood accenting and polished components
already in this luxury setup. There is one important upgrade that
you won't see, but you'll definitely feel it. The air conditioning
is now blowing cold with modern R134a to make sure this Jag upholds
its luxury image.
Lift the hood for an interesting surprise. This Jaguar has been
given a Chevy small block transplant. There has been a longstanding
tradition of swapping out the British motor for hardy American
muscle. In fact, an XJ like this that originally had a V12 was
already accepting GM's three-speed automatic transmission. More
than just an upgrade in robustness, this V8 has the right power
thanks to an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and headers feeding
the dual exhaust. Plus, you have an aluminum radiator with large
fan to help keep this Jag/Chevy running cool even if you're in
traffic with the A/C pumping. And within the last year there have
been nice investments like a new power steering pump, temp/oil
press sensors, rear radius arm, ball joints, and control arm
bushings. That all makes for a fine upgrade, and remember, all the
best parts of the Jaguar drivetrain are still intact. That means a
European-tuned fully-independent suspension and four-wheel disc
brakes. So this car is the perfect blend of a reliable heart and
precision legs.
Complete with owner's manual and maintenance records, this is an
awesome all-around classic for both luxury and power. So at a price
like this, you know you have to act quickly to snatch it up. Call
