Cincy Classic Cars is very proud to offer this 1981 frame off restored Pontiac Trans AM which is built to replicate a 1979 Special Edition TA. This build was completed in 2017 and driven sparingly since and is in show room condition. This build was professionally completed by one person outside of the rebuilding of the Pontiac 400 engine and the 4 speed manual transmission. This is just one of many full frame off restored Trans Am's which this builder has completed. He only does frame off restorations where every bolt, clip, nut, hose, piece of rubber, and every line is replaced or restored. He strips the body to bare metal and does all his own body work and paint. He fully restores the interior, engine bay, underside, and assemblies the drive line. His talent is amazing and obvious by viewing the photos and videos above. This special TA features a beautiful repaint in Starlight Black with all new decals and pin stripping, a rebuilt Pontiac 400 engine and a rebuild of the factory numbers matching 4 speed manual transmission, and a fully restored black deluxe vinyl interior with all the SE trim. This Trans Am has no rust anywhere on the body or underneath and is very solid with great lines and gaps. There is no bubbling or cracked paint anywhere on the body. The underside is fully restored and fully detailed. There are no rust concerns anywhere on the frame, floors, rockers, trunk, or tail panel. This Trans Am is finished in the most beautiful and most desirable color combinations of Starlight Black over Black Deluxe vinyl interior. Special Edition "Bandit" cars are some of the most valuable and sought after Trans Am's on the market. 4 Speed SE Trans Am's are at the top of that list. A Factory 4 speed SE restored to this level would cost $75,000 or so. Here is basically the same car at half the price.
Exterior
The Starlight Black exterior is in beautiful fully restored condition. This Trans Am was treated to a professional repaint in Starlight Black with all new decals and pin stripping. This car was a factory Blue TA so the body was sanded to bare metal and there was minimal to no rust work needed prior to the repaint. The body was removed from the frame to get the best possible result. The paint is in excellent show room condition with no signs of visible rust anywhere on the body or underneath and both bumpers are in excellent shape with no flaking or faded paint. There is no bubbling paint or any signs of rust on the body and the metal is all original sheet metal with no signs or rust repairs. The paint is looks deep and has a smooth touch with a wonderful gloss. The underside is amazing on this TA with all new lines, hoses, body mounts, etc. and is fully detailed and show ready. Its completely rust free with no visible repairs. New front bumper grills were added and a new nose emblem. There may be some minor imperfections that are not noticeable in the photos, but nothing was intentionally excluded from the photos. The Cooper Cobra tires are like new with full tread left and are sized 255/60/15 and the 8" snowflake wheels are brand new and in like new condition and come with new center caps and lug nuts. All weather stripping and window sweeps are new and in excellent condition. Door seals, t top seals, trunk seal, window sweeps, and shaker seal are in like new condition. Trunk is very solid and clean with the original space saver spare tire, jack, inflator bottle, and a correct felt trunk mat.
Interior
The Black deluxe vinyl interior of this Trans Am is in fully restored excellent overall condition. The new seat covers are like new with no noticeable wear, no rips, no seam splits, or fading. The door lock pulls, door handle cups, arm rests, and sill plates are all new. The carpet is new with no stains, rips, or holes. The original dash is in superb condition with no cracks, no warping, and no fading. The dash bezel is correct for an SE and was just restored and looks beautiful in the car. The stereo was just upgraded to a modern mp3/USB unit with brand new 6x9 speakers. The door panels are new and in new condition and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner and package tray are both new and in excellent shape. All interior and exterior lights and gauges work as they should including the clock which is very rare. The horn, stereo, wipers, and blower motor on all speeds works. The warning buzzers and lights all work and so does the blinker indicator lights. Having everything work on this car is truly unique and hard to come by. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma what so ever. The interior of this fantastic Trans Am looks just like the interior of a factory SE TA.
Mechanical
This Trans Am is in excellent mechanical condition and fully restored and everything is new or rebuilt. This TA was built to resemble a 1979 SE with a 400 Pontiac engine and 4 speed manual transmission with 4 wheel disk brakes and 8" wheels. This TA was a factory 4 speed TA with 3.42 rear gears and a 305 Chevy Engine. The 305 engine was removed and the numbers matching Transmission was rebuilt. The Pontiac 400 engine was sourced from a 1977 W72 TA and features a full rebuild bored .030 with 6X-4 heads and Ram Air III exhaust manifolds, Ram Air 068 camshaft, Jet Performance Stage 2 Q-Jet carb, and billet HEI distributor. New Pypes performance exhaust was installed and gives this TA and true muscle car sound at idle and cruising speeds. The emergency brake works as it should and holds the car well. We have driven this car numerous times and it always performs well, it does not run hot, it rides tight, and is always a joy to drive. The smiles, thumbs up, and attention you get driving this car is unlike any classic car I have driven. In the video one can observe this car running and driving with no excessive rattles or noises, and the car handles and performs well. This Trans Am is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs excellent. The 4 wheel disk brakes do not pull and stop as they should and were recently serviced with new calipers, new brake lines, new brake hoses and new pads. The gas tank is new with all new lines and hoses and new fuel pump. All suspension is new with new shocks, new springs, new body mounts, new ball joints, new sway bar mounts, new end links, etc. Also, the engine is very clean and highly detailed as one can see from the photos. Most of the engine bay bolts, lines, hoses, wires, screws, etc. are new. The engine bay as well as the rest of the car is in show condition.
