This original survivor is in amazing condition considering it is
original. It can easily serve as a benchmark for all factory
correct 1973 Mustang restorations. The person we purchased the car
from bought it in 2012 with 7,332 miles (marked actual on the
title). He did some basic service and drove the car almost 2,000
miles. It functions like a new car too. Original virgin body,
factory paint, pristine original interior.
EXTERIOR: No hit, no rust virgin body. When someone tells me the
car is all original paint I'm usually a nonbeliever. I just crawled
around this car with my flashlight inspecting for any signs of
overspray or tape lines. I found absolutely zero sign of any paint
work. My shop agrees. Typically when you do find original paint
cars they have garage scrapes and dents. This car is straight down
both sides. It actually has a glossy finish. You would think the
front rubber bumper would have bumped into something by now and be
cracked up, other than a few little chips it is excellent. Any
chrome, stainless, emblems are excellent. The rear panel,
taillights, gas cap look new still. Original windshield and windows
are crystal clear. The door jambs are excellent. Has original
weather strips, still soft and they're not cracked up. There are
Factory ink stamps still on the paint. The sill plates are not even
scuffed. The power white top is believed to be original, it still
has a paper inspection sticker dated 1973 on the frame. The top is
real nice, has one small slice. It originally came with hubcaps
which we have. It now has the optional slotted aluminum mags with
new tires. Has sport mirrors.
INTERIOR: You could package this interior and sell it as new. It is
not worn or faded. The cushions are still firm, seat belts are
mint. The dash area especially looks brand new. The little bit of
chrome around all the gauges and bezels still shines, the gauges
are not faded at all, lenses are crystal clear. The vents, knobs,
steering wheel are mint. Has original AM radio. Cigarette lighter
hasn't been used. Interior lights work, glove box light works and
it's like new inside. Even the plastic knobs on the window cranks
are still crystal clear, not yellowed. Wow, I just rolled up the
driver's window and it rolls up ridiculously easy and smooth.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: I am so impressed to see this original engine
compartment in such good condition. The light works under the hood
and other than a new coil and battery it appears to be all
original. Has factory paint markings, stickers, hose clamps etc.
Everything still has its original finishes in exceptional
condirion. Fender bolts are cadmium plated. The air cleaner still
has all the ductwork and vacuum lines attached to it. The air
conditioning was serviced with R12, it blows ice cold. It features
power steering and power brakes and a 351 Cleveland big block with
a two-barrel carburetor. Inside the distributor is also converted
from points to electronic ignition.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Very impressive. The light works, the gray
spatter finish is the original from the factory and it's nearly
pristine. All the wiring, nuts, bolts, latches are in excellent
original condition. The original spare may never have been in the
ground, it still has the ink stamps on the tread. Original Jack is
still in place. Original weatherstrip is still excellent, has
original jacking instructions sticker.
UNDERSIDE: It is really well preserved. You can still see assembly
line paint markings on the suspension, rear end and driveshaft. The
floors, frame rails, inner rockers, lower inner 1/4s are pristine
metal. Every seam, spotweld is crisp. Of course there is a haze of
surface rust on suspension parts, nuts and bolts. THERE IS NO ROT.
Up front the bushings still look good, has disc brakes. Bottom of
motor is clean. Trans is the heavy duty C-6 automatic. Recently it
did have the shocks replaced and it was given a new dual exhaust
system. It had its original exhaust until 2013.
Sometimes you can find grandma's 6 cylinder Buick four door with
low miles but a Mustang convertible? Never. I have been doing this
my whole life and I am amazed to see a Mustang convertible as
original in such good condition as this one. Trust me, this is a
chance of a lifetime to own an incredibly rare car. If you want to
carefully enjoy using the car it will function like new. If you
want to take it to Mustang concourse you will be given top honors
and really impress the judges. They are only original once, you
will have bragging rights with this car!
