Vehicle Description
1954 Ford Sunliner Convertible
The Ford Crestline model had several versions of the car depending
on what your preferences were. The Sunliner was a convertible, The
Fodor was a 4-door sedan with extra chrome trim, The Skyliner which
had an open rooftop which was retractable and was referred to as a
basket handle design.
Here at Classic Auto Mall for consignment is a pre fin, pre jet
age, post excessive chrome era automobile. Simplistic design almost
seems boring from what is to come, but it was very effective.
Suburbia was expanding at leaps and bounds, and this coupe was the
perfect grocery getter or night out for the folks kinda car for the
everyday man and his wife. Affordable enough to have more than 1
car, the 2-car family was born in this era, mainly due to cost.
Exterior
An excellent restored example of the Sunliner, with the benefit of
a full frame off restoration performed in California. Two tone Dark
Green Fine Metallic covers most of this car and is simply
excellent. A few minor areas of cracking, particularly around the
back of the hood area, but otherwise very nicely done. This is
complimented with a Sandstone White adorning the lower rear quarter
panels around the rear wheel wells and to the rear of this car. A
curving front bumper with guards installed fronts a small grille
with a large bar above it housing the parking lights and turn
signals. Near perfect window surrounds, side trim spears, and a
small wrap around rear fender guard and chromed rocker combination
are stunning. Couple this with the modern chromed wire wheels,
complete with Ford caps, wide whites, and a white convertible top,
and folks, we have a winner! This car could be driven or shown,
either way it's very nicely done.
Interior
Perfectly worn in leather in a light tan buff covers the front
split bench, and rear bench. A large chromed framework at the
bottom of the front seat with power seat options has been
installed. Looking at the door panels, these house power windows,
and it is noted the driver's side rear window does not work. Seat
belts have now been installed. The original dash, consisting of
restored green painted top dash, chromed instruments, and swirl
machined aluminum trim strips sits perfectly within its green metal
field. An aftermarket AM/FM/CD radio is seen, and a rarity the
clock still keeps good time! Green carpeting covers the floors and
floor mats, also in carpet form, cover the carpeting. Luxurious,
well-appointed with modern upgrades, and just beautiful look
at.
Drivetrain
The original 239ci V8, completely restored, with gobs of extra
chrome parts, and braided stainless hoses, gleams brightly in the
clean and pristine engine bay. Correct red engine block has been
repainted, and the 3-speed Ford-O-Matic is attached to the rear of
the mill. Noted this car has power brakes and power steering for
your driving pleasure.
Undercarriage
All but perfect with the big X frame setup showing virtually no
surface rust, or even dripping marks! It does not get any cleaner
than this, obviously this car has not seen any rain or inclement
weather in a long, long, while.
A definite highlight must see, you will want to check out early
1950's Ford, and all be it a stripped down model of the offerings
that year, this car exudes, and shouts style. From the chromed wire
wheels to the wide whites, and two tone Cream and Metallic Green,
leather interior and power additions, and a plethora of perfect
chrome (but not too much to be ostentatious) this car is a shower
and a smooth running, smooth shifting goer...like buttah! as they
say.
