1983 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 ... every Land Cruiser has the
guts to survive in the toughest terrain. Timothy Dahl, Popular
Mechanics The FJ60 series (1981-87) Toyota Land Cruiser was a
significant leap forward for the model in terms of body design,
construction quality, ergonomics, creature comforts, and
drivability over the earlier F40 and F55 Series Land Cruiser
vehicles. Power steering, front power disc brakes, air
conditioning, and dual heaters were all standard, on top of the
legendary 4-wheel drive system, 4-speed manual transmission,
leaf-spring suspension, and 4.2 liter V6 (F2) engine. Over the
years, FJ Land Cruisers have developed a strong following among
both off-roaders and classic truck enthusiasts. In that regard, the
Popular Mechanics article above included some sage advice: Land
Cruisers are known for being extremely reliable, but as with
anything used, it's all about what the previous owners have done or
neglected to do. To answer the what previous owners have done
issue, before we list the restoration work performed on the FJ 60
Land Cruiser offered here, we'd strongly urge you to look closely
at the accompanying photographs, in particular, those depicting the
extensive and professionally executed metal body work performed to
restore this vehicle. (These photos are shown at the end of the
more than 150 on our website: GarageKeptMotors.) All this work was
completed in 2018. This F60 not only looks terrific on the surface,
the beauty goes all the way down to bare metal. Any comparison to
lesser F60 vehicles advertised as needing just a little
rust-correcting body work will favor the F60 offered here. The
2018 work included a full, professional repaint in the factory Land
Cruiser color, Sky Blue. As the photographs show, the finish is
virtually perfect on every surface from door jambs to tailgates,
and from all angles. Inside, the gray, subtly striped fabric
upholstery (note the way the fabric continues over the tops of the
seats) including the matching upholstered door panels, is original
to the vehicle and in outstanding condition. The rear carpet area
does show some wear but has a brand new carpet cover. Complementing
light-gray carpeting shows as-new. Weather-stripping is fresh. The
black-and-gray dashboard is free of cracks and in excellent overall
condition. Plastic finishes across-the-board are without obvious
flaws. Interior and exterior lighting-including the yellow-lens
aftermarket auxiliary driving lights-functions as it should. Gauges
work properly inside clear plastic lenses. The carpeted rear cargo
area displays the same excellent overall condition as the rest of
the vehicle. In just the past three years, this FJ60 has
benefitted from additional maintenance including: new Duck
Commander off-road tires (manufactured by Cooper Tire); new spark
plugs installed; differential serviced; fuel system, vacuum-hose
system, and brake booster replaced; new rear heater installed; full
air-conditioning service (the system blows cold); alternator belt
and horn replacement; front shocks and struts replaced; rear shocks
replaced with air-shock units: fuel pump, fuel lines, and fuel
sending unit replaced. Documentation for all this work and more
(including many miscellaneous part sourced from Cruiser Parts) is
included. Returning to the Popular Mechanics article: ... if you
seek a classically styled truck that is easy to wrench on and has a
ton of aftermarket products, dealer support, and a thriving
community of drivers, then you've got to take a close look at the
Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60.... We couldn't have said it better
ourselves! Power Steerin
