Vehicle Description
1963 Plymouth Belvedere Coupe
Italian: habitational name from any of numerous places called
Belvedere, from bello 'beautiful' + vedere 'to see', 'to look at',
for example Belvedere Marittimo in Cosenza and Belvedere di
Spinello in Catanzaro. In some instances, the surname may have
arisen from a nickname with the same meaning.
For consignment a "Hot Wheels "version of the '63 Belvedere. With a
very nice interior, a dull finish exterior with some areas of
primer showing, an adorning of chrome that is very nice, and an
unrestored engine, this car may have been a work in progress?
WYSIWYG.
Exterior
Bathed in a dull Metallic Green which is dulled (possibly matte
finish) some areas of dirt, and inclusions appear, as well as a few
spots of recent primer sanded in. Panels are fairly straight, gaps
are good, and it appears to have all the original badging, chrome
and embellishments it had from the factory, and appearing in good
condition. On the corners are American Racing 5 spoke "mag" style
polished wheels, with large rear tires and smaller front tires,
hence the "Hot Wheels" reference earlier.
Interior
A front split bench, and a rear bench, are dressed up in gray tuck
and roll textured vinyl inserts with mint green vinyl bolsters.
Some slight wear is noted on the driver's side with a tear on the
lower back at the hinge for the back. The back seat appears like
new. Door panels are very nice and restored to original
configuration. Swinging forward to the dash we see a driver's panel
that contains the essential gauges in the iconic Plymouth Western
Style type font with black backgrounds and white
lettering/numbering. On the left flank of this panel is a series of
pushbuttons for the transmission. On the right is your
airflow/heating/cooling buttons. Several knobs are within reach of
the driver and are below this interesting '60's style dash. Moving
towards the passenger side a sloping dash continues with an AM
radio, and large speaker, ending with a glove compartment.
Headliner is very nice, sun visors appear to be original, and
carpeting in green is nearly new looking with virtually no marks on
it as it floods the floor.
Drivetrain
An original appearing 318ci V8 with its single 2-barrel carburetor
on top, shows plenty of surface rust, patina, and corrosion. Some
new hoses have been put on, and the original air cleaner is on top
showing in the same condition as the engine. Attached to the back
is a A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic, which as noted is actuated
by the push buttons on the dash, just like the Jetsons when they
ordered their dinner!
Undercarriage
Fairly clean with some surface rust, although it appears to have
been restored since the car was born. Frame is solid and underneath
the doors there is no rust. Independent front suspension, a leaf
spring rear with traction bars affixed, an 8.75 rear, and drum
brakes on all wheels can be seen from underneath.
An interesting mix of restored and original, all there, just some
areas need cosmetic attention, which is why I'm believed to suggest
it was in the middle of a restoration. This car starts quickly and
runs smoothly. Come to Classic Auto Mall and check out this
"beautiful view".
