The 911 Turbo arrived on U.S. shores for the 1976 year. Reworked
for emissions friendliness, the North American model was officially
coined the "Turbo Carrera", as Porsche continued to produce the
3.0-liter 930 through the 1977 model year, before switching to an
intercooled 3.3-liter engine. In total, just 2,819 of the first
generation 3.0-liter 930 Turbo Carrera were produced, with only
1,237 originally destined for the United States.
9307800498 was completed on March 23, 1977 as a non-catalyst, U.S.
model in period appropriate Bitter Chocolate Brown over Dark Brown
Leather, with electric sunroof and Pirelli tires. It was sold new
on May 6, 1977 through Burgin Motors of Logansport, Indiana,
eventually making its way to Finksburg, Maryland and later San
Antonio, Texas. This striking example of the highly desired 3.0L
911 Turbo Carrera now displays just 71,600 miles and is beautifully
presented and with excellent road manners.
Never restored, but rather freshened and serviced as needed, the
exterior's paint was reapplied in years ago, while original
portions are still visibly preserved in areas such as the door
jambs and engine compartment. It appears much of the body's trim,
lenses, glass, and equipment remain original to the vehicle. Its
wheels and tires were renewed in 2016. Likewise, the cabin is
fitted with excellent original leather seating and surrounds, while
the dash, rear deck and carpeting were reupholstered around the
time of the repaint. Coco mats offer additional protection. Period
Blaupunkt radio and microphone remain fitted. ALL electrical and
mechanical auxiliaries are in proper working order, including the
clock, sunroof, lights, signals, instruments, air conditioning,
front and rear wipers, mirror, windshield and headlight squirters.
Impressively the production number 1075846, as stamped under the
dash pad, coincide with the original hand-written sets found on
each side of the lower rockers - and reflect the level of
undercarriage preservation. The undercarriage has been meticulously
steamed cleaned and shows and still visible is the original factory
applied coating and some of the cosmoline applied at the
factory.
Performance is exceptionally strong through the powerband, without
stumble or complaint - compression is strong and even across the
board. Jones Autowerks of San Antonio, Texas performed 9307800498's
most recent engine-out service, as recorded in the Turbo's file. In
addition to the dossier and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity,
the 911 comes complete with original tool kit, 2/77 spare and jack
up front, touch-up paint, along with its VIN matched Owner's Manual
and Warranty book in folio. An example worth close attention from
driver enthusiasts and collectors alike, it's with good measure
that these early 930s are becoming less available on the market, as
they represent the new era in Porsche engineering and design. This
complete, matching and well-appointed Turbo Carrera is now
available for worldwide purchase and delivery from our Houston,
Texas showroom.
