Vehicle Description
A thorough and skillful restoration, with some well-chosen upgrades
added to the mix, has elevated an already impressive Mustang to a
whole new level. This 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is one very sharp
looking, strong running Pony. It's sure to make an impact at local
cruise nights and car shows and comes complete with a collection of
restoration documents and receipts to chronicle the work that's
gone into bringing it to its current stellar state.
This Mustang debuted at a time when the model was reaching its
absolute peak of popularity and, as a Mach 1, is a member of a
special class that enjoyed spectacular success upon its release.
With the addition of a special color scheme as well as the
signature fastback-shaped, Sportsroof configuration, Mach 1s
offered so much style and so many powerplant options that they
unwittingly overshadowed their stablemate GTs, outselling them by
multiples and indirectly leading to their discontinuation. Ford's
Wimbledon White paint looks as good as ever here, with a nice shine
and a smooth even texture and the Mach 1 dressing, which includes a
broad black accent over the scooped hood, as well as stripes
running the lengths of the sides, is in fine form, showing a
uniform deep color and nice, sharp edges. The exterior fittings
that make up so much of a vintage Mach 1s visual identity are
looking great here -the front air dam, rear spoiler and window
louvers are all in good shape.
Climb inside the cockpit and take a glance around - you'll see
plenty of evidence of the craftsmanship that went into this
restoration. The front buckets and rear bench seat wear well-fitted
black vinyl covers that show almost no signs of wear and the center
console seems as if it's yet to even have had an elbow rested on
it. Above, the headliner is nice and snug, while below the clean
black carpeting lining the floor is punctuated by a pair of Ford
Racing floor mats in front. The assortment of woodgrain accents
throughout the interior faithfully recreates the look of the
original Mach 1s and all of it, from the panel surrounding the
gauges in the instrument panel, to the door panels and center
console that features a Hurst floor shifter, is in top notch
condition.
Release the pins, raise the hood and you'll see a nicely detailed
engine compartment, at the center of which an expansive 428 Cobra
Jet that now sits in place of the original 351. The Cobra Jet was
the top rung motor choice in Mach 1s of this era, so this is a
fitting upgrade. With its proper Shaker scoop sitting over the
added 4-barrel carb, the engine looks very much at home here - all
the right steps were taken to ensure that this swap was a clean
one. The inclusion of stock intake and exhaust manifolds, as well
as factory style decals in all the right places, give the
compartment a thoroughly authentic appearance, while an added Comp
cam equips the powerplant with a little extra muscle, sent to the
rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission for a compelling
"hands on" driving experience. You'll find disc brakes up front to
equip this Pony with fade resistant stopping power as it cruises on
its set of 15" chrome Magnum 500 tires wrapped with BF Goodrich T/A
Radials. Below, the undercarriage looks well-positioned for plenty
more miles of vintage driving enjoyment.
