Vehicle Description
Introduced in 1967 as the Mustang's classy sibling, the first
generation Mercury Cougar quickly attained a reputation and a
following similar to that of the Mustang. A different car sitting
on what was mostly the same platform, the Cougars attracted a
slightly different demographic with different styling and as an
overall more refined vehicle. The Cougar-exclusive sequential turn
signals quickly became a Ford icon, and are one of the most notable
traits of these cars. Because enthusiasm for the Cougar dropped off
somewhat rapidly after the first generation, when someone says
"Mercury Cougar," chances are this is the car that comes to
mind.
This 1970 Cougar is clean and straight, and ready to rock'n'roll!
Dressed up with a rear wing, front chin spoiler, hood scoop, and
"Eliminator" stickers, this Cougar looks the part of a
high-performance vehicle while maintaining the role of a powerful
cruiser. Though a repaint was performed previously, the blue paint
is more than flattering on the body lines of this car, while the
17" chrome wheels really make the paint pop!
Under the hood is a Ford 351 V8 sitting pretty in a tidy engine
bay. The engine runs and sounds great, and is the perfect
powerplant for fun weekend rides! An automatic transmission makes
this Cougar even further cruise-ready. While this car is manual
drum brakes on all four corners, they are properly dialed in and
this car stops well for what it is. Fortunately, if drum brakes
aren't your thing, disc brake conversion kits are readily
available!
The interior is in good overall condition, and appears to have been
restored at some point. All wear items are in usable and good
condition, and the seats look almost new! Black buckets are a
classic must-have for a true muscle car like this. The only thing
it needs is a radio, of course that won't be necessary if you
prefer the rumble of the engine!
This is a great driving, fun and unique car. If you're looking for
something easy to find parts for, but unique at the same time, this
Cougar would be a great candidate!
