The 2003 SL55 AMG's were 50% more responsive than the regular SL
lineup. The SL55's had a massive 469hp belt driven supercharger
mounted on top of the V8. They made 479lb ft of torque and was
restricted to 155mph because Mercedes couldn't find a tire
manufacturer that would go beyond this speed in a 4,400 lb car.
Unrestricted the car was clocked at 208mph. This car was as fast as
the 911 and almost as fast as the 911 Turbo in 2003. Car and Driver
said, "So Fast Nobody Makes Tires For It." These cars have the
"American Thunder" when you depress the gas peddle and it throws
you back in the seat. There is currently not another car on the
planet that will provide you with the thrills that an SL55 AMG
will.
