This is a 1966 Shelby GT350 Fastback Mustang. Documentation and known history are two important attributes for collector cars and this1966 Shelby GT350, SFM6S1518, possesses plenty of both. As noted in the Shelby American Automobile Club’s Shelby Registry 1965-67, this GT350 was shipped from the Shelby American assembly facility in Los Angeles to Koons Ford in Falls Church, Virginia in June 1966, then sold to its original owner on 07/26/1966. Since 1981, it has been in the hands of a sole collector and enthusiasts, ensuring that it was cared for through the years.
During the mid 2000’s it received a concourse rotisserie restoration by Tony Conover of Conover Restorations. From 2010 to present, a private collector in Northern California has owned the GT350. It retains much of its original equipment, including the factory-installed 4-speed transmission and matching-numbers 289 Hi-Po V-8 that was modified to Shelby specs for 306 horsepower.
Like all 1966 GT350s, the car was delivered to Shelby American as a K-code Mustang fastback, then upgraded with a Cobra aluminum intake with Holley carburetor, Tri-Y headers, Koni shock absorbers, rear traction bars, 15-inch wheels, dash-mounted tachometer, competition seat-belts and wood steering wheel. Externally, the Shelby models differed from regular Mustangs with a fiberglass hood with scoop, Plexiglas rear quarter windows and side scoops. This car was ordered as a lemans stripe delete car. Only 2,378 1966 GT 350’s were built in total. This is an investment quality car for the distinguished collector.
